US Department of Defense press official said it will adjust its plans for European missile defense system. The positive reaction from Russia did not delay. Moscow official said that it will welcome the change in U.S. missile defense shield program. Voice of Russia reports.
Moscow would welcome Washington abandoning its plans to deploy missiles in Europe. A spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry announced Thursday that this scenario would contribute to bolstering Russian-U.S. relations.
He commented on reports that the United States may “shelve” its earlier plans to deploy a radar in the Czech Republic and ten interceptor rockets in Poland. The Wall Street Journal says this may be owing to the fact that Iran’s program to build long-range missiles is proceeding slower than initially thought.
The project was actively pushed forward by the previous Administration of George W. Bush under the pretext of a possible missile threat from Iran. President Barack Obama, on the contrary, holds that it requires further study from the point of view its efficiency and financial profit.

In the meanwhile the VOA reports the following on the cancellation of Missile Defense System. "The Wall Street Journal Thursday said Mr. Obama is planning to cancel the radar system in the Czech Republic and a missile interceptor base in Poland. Reuters news agency quotes senior Polish officials as saying they have received similar news from the U.S."
