Bear Shot After Attacking Tourists In Japan

According to Japanese news agency Kyodo, a black bear attacked and assaulted nine tourists in a bus terminal in Central Japan. It happened this afternoon according to Japanese Times.

The tourists were near a bus terminal in a mountainous area in Takayama, which is south east of Nagano. Four men out of the nine people are serious wounded.

The tourists were waiting for the bus to go to the mountains when the bear approached and attacked them.

The black bear fled the bus terminal after the attack and entered the souvenir shop. The officials shot the bear and killed the animal.

"I saw a man being attacked by the bear," one eyewitness told reporters according to BBC. "I tried to help him but the bear kept attacking him. It seemed his face was seriously injured."

Black bears have distinct differences from other types of bears. "For one thing, their back legs are longer than most other bears. The rest of their features include a large body, long snout, rounded ears, small eyes and a short tail. They have an acute sense of smell. Generally seen on all fours, you may also see them balancing on their hind legs only. Being flat-footed, the gait is lumbering. If seen during fall season, the time when they are preparing to go into hibernation, these animals seem to have grown in size," writes Abhishek Agarwal.
