St.Petersburg to host European Theater Prize

St. Petersburg is not only Russia's most beautiful city, but arguably also one of the most sought after destinations in Europe. Now it is challenging Paris and London to become a center for theatrical art.

2011 will see St.Petersburg for the first time hosting the European Theater Prize, a St.Petersburg city government spokesman said following his talks with the Prize Secretary General Alessandro Martinez in Italy on Wednesday.

Anton Gubankov cited his city’s well-developed theater infrastructure, adding that many prominent cultural figures currently live and work in St.Petersburg.

The European Theater Prize was established by the European Commission in 1986.
