A number of North African and Persian Gulf states have promised to give Israeli airliners flyover rights in their airspace. There will be other concessions if Tel Aviv freezes settlement construction, the Al-Bavaba news agency reported on Wednesday.
Al-Bavaba quoted US Mideast envoy George Mitchell as receiving on earlier in the day private assurances from representatives of unnamed Arab countries that they would also open their trade offices in Israel and end a travel ban against Israeli citizens if Tel Aviv completely halts the building of Jewish settlements in the West Bank.
Israel has repeatedly indicated intent to suspend settlement construction, which Palestine insists must be stopped in full.
