Every Business Needs a Blog

Business owners are going to read the title of this article and say to themselves, not my business. What they are really saying is that they are not willing to go through the trouble of learning how to create a blog for their business.

The truth is that creating a blog is quite simple and, if strategic, can take any business to the next level. A blog is another way to gain exposure. When you expose something you take it from being a secret to making it public for all to see. So why not expose your business to the world by creating a blog and having it online for everyone to see?

A blog can be used as an informal way of advertising. In the past, business owners had to jump through hoops to get their business listed in magazines, local newspapers and let’s not forget the almost done away with yellow pages. Not only were owners given the “runaround”, but they paid top dollar for the inclusion. As the saying goes, times are a changing, and rightly so. An ad would take weeks before it was published and then it would take another week or more before a potential customer would read the advertisement. All that hard work so a competitor who paid extra for a color ad can take away ones business.

Today, a business owner can create a blog within an hour and have their business highlighted all over the internet. They can email the link to friends and have them post it on their blogs or social media sites. Within minutes one can reach their target audience with news about products or services. The best part about having a blog is that it staying online forever until it is deleted by its owner. That’s right, a blog is not like a regular advertisement that is only included in one magazine or newspaper section.

How do people find blogs?

Blogs are also easily indexed by search engines. What does this mean? Basically, when someone does a search for a product or service online, they will find a list of websites or blogs that relate to their search. So if a business owner had a blog about Chinese food in lower Manhattan, chances are that their business blog will appear in the search results when someone searches for that criteria. Blogs have any information that someone wants to add. If an owner wants to add contact information and a map to their business they can do so accordingly.

Why not just create a website?

A website is a great way for owners to promote their business. This article is not intended to reduce the important of websites by any means but websites are created to stay constant. If an owner wants their business to remain neutral, then they need to create a website. A business is to have life that grows over time and a blog will help create that change. If a new product or service was going to be offered in the future, then an owner can write posts about it and get people excited. A blog lets end users or customers subscribe to it because every blog has a feed built into it. So when an owner creates new posts, every subscriber will know about it within seconds. There will be no need for an owner to tell people that their blog changed because customers will already know.
