Nearly one hundred eighty people gathered in Detroit on Wednesday, September 30th at the Capitol calling for auto insurance reform. The rally was led by the state Senator Martha G. Scott, a Democrat from Highland Park.

The auto insurance rally was led during a break from the Wednesday's budget discussion, reports LSJ.com. Senator said that the price of auto insurance in Michigan is one of the highest in the nation. She claimed that Michigan drivers pay some of the highest car insurance rates in the United State.

“Money spent on insurance required by law in Michigan is money struggling families cannot spend on their mortgage, their utilities and their food,” she said. “Changing the way insurance companies do business in Michigan will put money back into the pockets of hard-working people," reports LSJ.

Some said that, while Detroit and Michigan do need auto insurance reform, it's best if the government starts working on enforcing the law on the streets and highways ensuring all the drivers have car insurance coverage.
