Armenia Turkey Sign Protocols

Finally the protocols are signed between Armenia and Turkey. The foreign minister of Turkey Mr. Davutoglu and Armenia Mr. Nalbandian signed the protocols normalizing relations between Armenia and Turkey. There won't be any announcements after singing the protocols. Looks like the parties decided not to have any announcements thus resolving the issue that postponed the signing of the protocols.

Their faces don't seem to be very happy. It is obvious that a tens back door diplomacy has taken place behind closed doors. The protocols were supposed to be signed several hours ago, but the post-signature statemnt text of Turkey linking the protocols to Nagornor Karabakh delayed the signature.

Present at the signing of the protocols were Mrs Hillary Clinton, Sergey Lavrov, Javier Solana, Bernard Cushner and Swiss foreign minster who mediated the talks.

Next will be the turns of the parliaments of Turkey and Armenia to ratify the protocols. Protocols envision regonition of mutual borders, Opening of the border on Turkey's part, and establishing a government commission to study and remove the consequences of the Armenian Genocide.

Turkey denies that the killings of the 1.5 millions of Armenians in 1915 amount to genocide. This is despite the fact that 20 countries have recognized and condemned it.
