The Android Market platform download application for smartphones running the Google operating system Android, reached the milestone of 20,000 applications, according to statistics provided by the site AndroLib.com. The number of applications available for Android mobile has almost doubled in recent months, but Google is still far from 100,000 "apps" available on the App Store from Apple.
However, according to TechCrunch, making reference to Googl, the count is only 16,000. Robin Wauters writes that a Google spokesperson told them that the actual number is just exceeding 16,000. In any case, the difference is not big, particularly when considering each day passing by.
These figures are related to the influx of new devices running Android. Apart from Nokia and Apple, most major players in mobile telephony have recently released their Google Phone: HTC, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, Acer, Dell, Motorola, etc... The catalog should be enriched in early 2010 with new versions of Android, which incorporate a particular application of free navigation and advanced.
For now, the big winner on this lucrative market is Apple and its iPhone. Apple has more than 100,000 applications in its App Store, a large number of video games and practical applications (transport, travel, weather, etc..).
