Computers and Internet have started becoming an integral part of the human society. Future dreams about computing make us think about faster, more real time and interactive machines. Social networking like face book might turn into virtual spaces where human in US can be a friend of a robot in Japan.
The true potential of future communication relies on transformation and new functionality that it enables. Applications used in the future computing will be designed more realistic and will transform the way we live, learn and play. But the disappointing factor is that the broadband speed and availability at present in the US will not facilitate faster computing and can make the country to lay far behind the rest of the world.
There are many variations with the reports submitted by different studies about the broadband speed in the US. However we are in a situation to agree that we average around 5 Mbps across the country which is ten times slower than countries like Japan and South Korea. It has been agreed by some of the internet authorities that countries like Japan and South Korea has taken away the internet innovation from the hands of US. Also we still trial to lead the European counter parts UK, France and Sweden which again is a disadvantage for the growth of the nation.
Reports from the analysts states four major transformation in communication:
1. Future broadband will enable faster file transfers, which will not just increase the download speeds but increase the upload speed of user created documents. Also the concept of cloud computing would help customers to store data in a remote location rather store it in their desk.
2. High quality Video on Demand (VOD) will be made possible with next generation broadband. This will allow instant download of movies and viewing videos without streaming. Also television service would be delivered using IPTV providing interactive television experience with unlimited number of channels and user chosen programs.
3. Real time video conferencing and Tele-presence will be enabled using advanced devices and technologies like VOIP that would make users feel like they are working together even if they are connected between the two ends of the world.
4. Multiplicity of applications that can work better, consuming more bandwidth will be used in the future. It is estimated that an average user will use at-least 35 electronic devices like mobile phones, PDA’s, digital camera’s etc., which will be connected together in the network and can communicate faster with each other. This will make customers feel at ease and provide all forms of information available online.
Deploying faster broadband access would have a greater impact in the growth of the economy, business, education and the society as a whole. The government and broadband providers have to focus in deploying faster broadband service in most past of the country to be in the race with the Asian and European counterparts.
