The Department of Revenue in South Carolina allows certain individuals who qualify for the program to have their taxes filed online for free. The free tax return program is carried with Free File Alliance.
The requirements of eligibility of the free file program is very simple. The tax return is prepared online for free if an individual has made less than $30,000 dollars or is over 65 years of age. Students also qualify for the program.
The free online tax return program is carried with Free File Alliance. Tax Slayer, TurboTax, Tax Hawk, and On-Line Taxes participate in this program. They offer their services online for free to those individuals in South Carolina who qualify for this income tax return program.
Another benefit for the people who file their taxes online is the time they get the rebates back. Those who file taxes electronically, known as e-file, get their money quicker than those who file on paper.

According to Freefile.org 24 million tax returns have been filed online though this program since 2003. Out of this number, 4.8 million Americans have used the program filling their taxes online in 2009.
