Earlier today growing number of twits tweeted that Grand Central train station in the heart of New York City is being evacuated and that there is a SWAT team on place. It appears that it may have been a hoax, report some newspapers including Huffpost. But according to other reports Grand Central was in fact evacuated briefly today.
According to HuffPost update, all is fine at the Grand Central Station. The online newspaper says early tweets may have been a hoax or misunderstanding that quickly spread in the twiterspace.
However, according to Gothamist, NYPD has told them that they have seen a suspicious package at about 1:36, but it has been cleared at 2:11.
NYCT's Paul Fleuranges tells us he hasn't heard about this, but is checking. He noted, "We did have a suspicious package incident at 1:36 but it cleared at 2:11." Grand Central was in fact evacuated when that occurred this afternoon, Gothamist reports.
The bottom line is that all is clear now at the Grand Central.
