Obama Tells Dems: "Don't run for the hills"

The State of The Union speech that the President Barack Obama addressed, had some good stuff. The final passage was fantastic. Some say the president hit a home run.

"To Democrats," the president said, in one of the speech's most poignant moments. "I would remind you that we still have the largest majority in decades, and the people expect us to solve some problems, not run for the hills."

Mark Warner writes from Daily Kos.

This section was good because it speaks to everyone on the left. All factions. At the end of the day, we have our differences about tactics and policy, but we all agree on one thing:

The Congressional Democrats need to govern. They need to legislate.

I think we can all agree that this statement was directly largely at the Senate. But it was also directed at any Democrats who might want to throw in the towel right now because it's a tough environment. Or because they're dispirited. Or because a lobbyist told them to throw in the towel.

Matforbarack writes: The President was forceful, direct, and sincere in his speech tonight. It should rally most Democrats and Independents to his side and remind them why they voted for him in the first place.

He expressed disappointment with the Congress. He pointed out how the Republicans will have to accept responsibility for legislative accomplishments if they are going to insist upon 60 votes for all legislation. He expressed regrets about deals made (Pharma comes to mind). He will not stop
