Kentucky Derby 2010 Contenders May Run Under Light

Kentucky Derby Contenders

For the first time in 135 years, the Kentucky Derby's 2010 run would be under the lights at the Churchill Downs track. Heavy rains and wind are expected in Louisville for the entire day. The post time for Kentucky Derby is 6:28, but the rain will come for 4-5 hours since the morning.

"If visibility is poor due to the rain, we'll use the lights that we installed this year," said the spokesman of the track, Darren Rogers on Friday. Lights now surround the entire track.. There may be some fog and the lights will help to provide light during the morning hours when the horses get out for their training time.

This is an option that we have, continued Rogers.

"It could be very difficult," said coach Bob Baffert, who trains the favorite horse Lookin at Lucky. Odds favor Lookin at Lucky. Yet, let's see if the day will be lucky for this contender. It looks more rainy than "lucky" for the contenders of the 2010 Kentucky Durby.

The weather may change the odds as well.

There are no restrictions on the use of artificial lighting at Kentucky Derby. This is the 136th run. During the former 135 times Kentucky Derby horses run under natural daylight. Churchill Downs hopes the continue this tradition during the the race tomorrow, which is scheduled to start at about 6:28 Eastern Time.

#1 2010 Kentucky Derby Winner

It has been quite a while that a Florida Derby winner won the Kentucky Derby until this year. Ice Box will crush the field tomorrow. He is improving with every race and his performance in the Florida Derby was one tick off of Eskendaria's time the race before the Florida Derby. Ice Box also loves the off-going. It will have been raining for 5 hours prior to the Derby tomorrow at Louisville. Watch for an improved performance from Ice Box in the Derby with a similar "off-the-pace" performance as his last at Gulfstream.
