Despite rising gas prices summer travel deals are still abundant in the nation. Gas prices are still down about dollar and a half from last year's 3.80s, although they have gone up nearly 40 cents in the last month.
AAA expects more people to travel during this unofficial start of the summer vacation and travel season. Indeed, the Memorial Day is known as the unofficial start of summer vacation season. Nearly 300,000 public pools will open nationwide this weekend. However, some will have to deal with the rising operating costs and may not open, according to yesterday's report I read at NPR's Marketplace.
AAA estimates 32.4 million Americans will travel this Memorial Day weekend, a 1.5% increase from last year.
If you have your job and are able to pay your house mortgage, this is a great time to travel. Airline ticket prices are down and vacation tour operators are dropping prices 20-30 percent to attract more travelers.
