Government Wants Your Individual Obesity Rating By 2014

All Americans, by 2014 will be required to have an individual obesity rating electronically recorded. It has been determined that under the new health stimulus law passed by President Barack Obama recently, that all Americans, by 2014, will be required to have electronic health records which will include their height, weight and body mass index (BMI).

BMI is a formula that calculates ones body measurements, including height and weight, in order to come up with an individual obesity rating. Calculation of BMI is the preferred method of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for measuring obesity and coming up with an obesity rating, which is the measure of a person’s body fat percentage.

Normal weight obesity shocks Americans

Regina Benjamin, the U.S. Surgeon Genera stated that according to the CDC, “BMI provides a reliable indicator of body fatness for most people and is used to screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems.”

America has been criticized for being a nation that actually promotes obesity and hence leads American's to have health issues. The new health regulation also stipulates that the electronic records, including BMI will be able to quickly send individual health records as public health data to state and federal health agencies such as the HHS and the CDC.

The new obesity-rating regulation will be enforced in every American's electronic health record. The regulation states that it must, “Calculate body mass index. Automatically calculate and display body mass index (BMI) based on a patient’s height and weight.” In addition, these electronic health records will be available for viewing on a national exchange. Seems a bit invasive, say many, but there will be security measures in place on these electronic records to try to help with privacy.

Michelle Obama Unveils Lets Move Campaign to Fight Childhood Obesity

The 2009 economic stimulus law, already in place, has made some additions. The most major; this new regulation and requirement for obesity ratings within electronic records. This is the government's first step towards adopting a new universal requirement for electronic health records (EHRs) by 2014.

Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Dr. David Blumenthal, the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology for Health and Human Services (HHS), shared on Tuesday that under the stimulus law, health care providers, including doctors and hospitals, must establish "meaningful use" of EHRs by 2014 in order to qualify for federal subsidies. If they do not comply, they will risk getting penalized in the form of diminished Medicare and Medicaid payments.

As outlined in Section 3001 of the stimulus law, it reads, "The National Coordinator shall, in consultation with other appropriate Federal agencies (including the National Institute of Standards and Technology), update the Federal Health IT Strategic Plan (developed as of June 3, 2008) to include specific objectives, milestones, and metrics with respect to the following: (i) The electronic exchange and use of health information and the enterprise integration of such information.‘‘(ii) The utilization of an electronic health record for each person in the United States by 2014."

I agree with you thats between me and my Dr..not for the public I put a lot of money and time to get this way and it is a hell of a lot easer puting om than taking off and I do not need a BMI to tell I am fat. That health care bill and obama both need to be kicked out the door a long way down to gitmo

#3 CHECKING OUR BMI

It needs to start in the White House. Some of those women are big and fat!! YOU FIRST!!

#4 BMI

Vote Republican in November. Republicans aren't perfect but the U.S. needs a two party government to prevent dictators like Obama from exercising their free will. You can bet your last dollar Michelle Obama's BMI won't become public record.

#5 I agree!!! It's getting worse

I agree!!! It's getting worse than Russia years ago here! NONE of their Business! Obama needs to fins SOMETHING Constructive to do like wrk on the Housing market and get people back to work! Terrorist friends?

You might not make good policy, you certainly write good bumper stickers. Worse, how about doing something about our education system so that you can lean to write and spell English correctly? I thought it was out national language.

#7 Bod y Mass Index

Your height and weight are already in your chart. Your Dr. MUST comply with the bill in order to continue to receive payment from the government for services rendered to you. That is a requirement under the provisions of the bill that was passed. Just another way of eventually establishing info on every person in the U. S. which is what he set out to do, to have a universal health care program.

#8 The Gov't will probably get

The Gov't will probably get the info from your physician whether you want them to or not.

#9 Obesity Rating

We have only ourselves to shame. Perhaps we could work off all those pounds by walking to the polls this fall and voting out every incumbent. Regardless, this 'health care' law is an invasion of privacy--government intrusion into the doctor/patient relationship, a means to increase government regulation, another unneeded bureaucracy. Simply put, we are living in a totalitarian state and afraid to admit it.

How about the gov kissing the fattest part of my white a@@.

#14 The begginning of the end of your rights as an American

This is just the first step in the loss of privacy and rights for Americans. Eventually government will control all that you can say or do and once Kahgan, or however her named is spelled, is confirmed she will give Obummer the judicial backing he needs to pass any law that threatens your freedoms as an American. I hope the ones who helped the telepromter in chief get elected are happy that they are responsible for the loss of freedoms for individuals and for the start of the downfall of American. May God have mercy on your communist souls.

#15 not in my life time

If freindly voice and voting them out doesnt stop this and they relegate "WE THE PEOPLE" to the peasant status then unfriendly results will start occuring as it did in the early days. At 1 time people were actually tared and feathered, that time may be comming back.

#16 Tar them all

I agree our elected officials are so out of touch with the rest of the country .They all need to be tared and feathered so that they can stick to US

#17 not in my life time

Sounds like it's time for the citizens against Big Brother to revolt!

#18 It's good to know that I am

It's good to know that I am not alone!

#19 I agree

I agree totally with your comment.....God help us all if this is not stopped!!

#20 End of Rights as an American

You are RIGHT...sad, isn't it?!

#21 Obesity rating,

Obama and his destruction of America is going way too far, we must get the crazy Democrats out of our government. They bad mouth Bush all the time, but they are destroying this great country very quickly, and if we
don't send them packing soon it may be too late to save America. The only truth that Obama has told was that he
was going to change America, but he did not tell us it would be for the worst.

#22 fat detectives

I agree with all of the remarks so far. I myself would like to add this. It's time to get on our knees and pray for God to forgive us for abandoning Him and save us!

#23 Repentance is the only way.

completely agree - it's the only ONE thing that will surely work.

#24 Obesity rating

Interesting that none of this applies to those who voted for health care. They have their own insurance that is not subject to this standard.

#25 HELLO??

Nothing should be applicable to any AMERICAN citizen, unless the President and all his men
are subjected the EXACT same laws.
They are, after all, the SERVANTS of "we the people". WE , the people, are THE MASTERS and we will decide what is good for them because we say so!

#26 Manage Cravings to Reduce BMI

To manage BMI, one has to modify their eating and exercise behaviors. It's hard work, but nothing good comes without pain. A key to managing BMI is the ability to properly identify and manage cravings--or food impulses. If we could teach people to manage their cravings with healthier snacks--or better yet--some instantaneous exercise, we might make a measureable impact BMI. This is an interesting tool that is worth a look. http://weightcontrol.myhealthtrends.com

#27 No lessons needed, that's not the problem

Well looks like you drank the kool-aid! The object here is NOT a lesson in health, it is the government sticking their ugly noses in our business, over and over and over! Get a clue.

#28 bmi

This is fine is YOU want to do it ... not so fine when your government wants you to do it ... time to read 1984 or Brave New World ...

#29 Legislating Behavior Does Not Modify Behavior

I've heard it all. People who have the need to control others are out of control. If you and I want to snack on hummus and 100 percent whole wheat bread or crackers, that's our business. If the person next door wants to snack on potato chips and beer, the decision is that person's decision....not yours and not mine.

Trying to legislate behavior is insane and it demonstrates that when people don't know what they are doing they cause confusion to take the focus off the real problems. I remember the quote that goes something like this, "He who knows not that he knows not, he is foolish...shun him." "He who knows that he knows not is wise....follow him."

#30 Bite the low cal part of me

Controlling personal BMI has nothing to do with big brother controlling BMI. My doctor and I already work out these details quite well in private. So bugger off. Get off your PC horse and consider how capitalism and individualism formed the world we live in. Capitalism rebuilt Europe after WWII. It turned 3rd world China into a superpower. Our money built this world. And that money was created from individualists in our formerly free society taking chances on new ideas. Not calling big brother and Uncle Sam for a handout. I'm was born a free American and have every intention of being free the day I die.
