Priests Taped In Rome Gay Club Having Casual Flings

A weekly news magazine has released details today, about a gay priest sex scandal that has shocked and appalled the Catholic Church in Italy. The investigation has been called shocking and has many Catholics, as well as others, up in arms. This is not the first sex scandal this year for the Catholic Church. There have been others since January involving pedophile acts perpetrated by Catholic priests.

In this gay priest sex scandal, the occurrence of three priests who were found to have attended gay nightspots in Italy were also filmed having casual sex there. A journalist from Panorama Magazine, which is a publication owned by the Italian Prime Minister and media baron Silvio Berlusconi, used hidden cameras to film the acts. The footage taken of these acts will be revealed shortly, according to the Panorama article.

Panorama Magazine stated, "The investigation as 'deeply disturbing' as it detailed how three priests, two Italians and a Frenchman, happily took part in gay events and had casual sex.".

So far, there have not been any comments given from the Italian Bishops Conference and the Vatican.

The entire incident, including the gay priests and the reporter seems to have been scandalous. Not only were the priests doing something in extreme opposition to the views and beliefs of the Catholic Church, which forbids priests to have sex and where homosexuality is also seen as a 'sin', but the reporter also was very sneaky in his approach to getting his information.

The article from the Panorama article describes how the reporter got help from a gay man who acted as his 'accomplice' to getting into the club and exposing the double life that these gay priests were living. It was found out through this tactic that, "By day they [the priests] are regular priests, complete with dog collar, but, at night it's off with the cassock as they take their place as perfectly integrated members of the Italian capital's gay scene," as stated by the Panorama Magazine.

The editor of Panorama, Giorgio Mule stated, 'This was a two week investigation and was not aimed at creating a scandal but showing that a certain section of the clergy behaves very differently." As it is understood that there have been many different sex scandals involving gay priests acting in inappropriate ways (according the Catholic Church) as far as engaging in sexual acts, homosexual acts and even illegal and deplorable acts such as child molestation, this should not speak for the Catholic Church as a whole.

The Catholic Church sets off to do many commendable and life changing things for those who engage in its belief system and these incidences perhaps should be taken as isolated events, but not to speak for the Catholic Church as a whole. These types of scandals should not hold heavy weight on the Catholic Church in general, as with any religious affiliation and their own mishaps and aberrations.
