There have been reports saying that the Taliban are now fighting even dirtier than ever. The Sun source reported that the Taliban are burying dirty needles with their bombs in a bid to infect British troops with the HIV virus. There is talk that they are also using razor blades inside the bombs.
Reports shared that hypodermic syringes are being hidden below the surface of bombs. They are pointing upwards to prick bomb squad experts as they hunt for the devices. The needles, which are being said to be heroin needles, are feared to be purposefully contaminated with hepatitis and HIV virus.

If the bombs go off, the needles become extremely dangerous as they will become flying shrapnel. This is the tactic that is currently being used in the Afghan badlands of Helmand, said Tory MP and ex-Army officer Patrick Mercer. Mercer said, "Are there no depths to which these people will stoop? This is the definition of a dirty war."
Lieutenant Colonel David Southall, Commanding Officer of the Counter-IED Task Force said told reporters, "Improvised explosive devices remain a tactic of desperation and last resort. The Taliban know they can’t take us on and win in a conventional toe-to-toe fight – whilst they resort to some pretty despicable IED emplacement tactics, my IED operators, now drawn from all across the three services, are well equipped and up for the fight."

Even if you were to be stuck with a needle contaminated with HIV, the chance of transmission is only between 0.3 and 0.45 percent. The chances of HIV transmission from a dirty bomb, which involves high temperature explosives and random targeting area....even lower. Unless the Taliban is going around actually injecting blood into soldiers' arms, this is just a way for the Taliban to scare the public with the threat of getting HIV. Its a hollow threat that they cannot follow through with. For them to even attempt to infect people would just be a waste of time and resources. But then again....why not let them waste their time and get caught trying to get needles for a worthless endeavor.
