Kanye West Still Emotional About Taylor Swift

Kanye West is still cut-up about ruining Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the VMAs last September writes the Press Association. He insists that he ‘bled’ over the pain he caused.

West stormed the stage when Swift was given the award for her video to ‘You Belong with Me’, insisting that Beyoncé’s video for ‘Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it)’ should have won. The backlash was immediate. West was thrown out of the award ceremony while Swift received a standing ovation (Rolling Stone). Reports say the country music singer was crying back stage. Everyone in the audience was stunned, including Beyoncé, who graciously called Swift up to the podium to finish her speech even while collecting her own award (RS).

There were also rumors that West had been drinking heavily that night. He apologized quickly to Swift, his fans, even Swift’s mother (RS). His recent apology is just one of several as he continues to try and patch up the damage done. This weekend’s Twitter remarks follow continued persecution by angry Swift fans including death threats.

‘I carry that,’ wrote West. ‘I smile and take pictures through that.’ (PA).

Not the First Time

The Guardian UK published a convenient list of past offences by rapper Kanye West dating pretty much from his debut album in 2004. Seems he is a very bad loser, not just infuriated on behalf of others. He stormed out of the American Music Awards in ’04 after losing out as Best New Artist (to a country singer, ironically). In 2005 he criticized George Bush during the Hurricane Katrina benefit concert on TV for not being concerned about black people (Guardian). After losing out again, this time during the MTV Europe Music Awards, he embarked on an ‘expletive-ridden tirade’ (Guardian). There were other incidents in between.

Clearly the outspoken artist has a problem with his temper and his ego, though some comments suggest that he is only declaring outwardly what is in the nature of other music stars who hide the ugly side to egos better.

These most recent comments by the now infamous rapper, however, indicate a measure of self-awareness. His persona has caught up with him, and while one witness at the VMAs noted it’s just ‘rock and roll’ (RS), West now knows that his version of rock and roll isn’t doing his career any good.
