British Open 2010 Day 1 Summary and Online Viewing Choices

The British Open 2010 day 1 is in the books. Scores were low thanks to great weather for the morning rounds. The afternoon brought cooler temperatures, wind and periods of torrential rain. At the top of the leader board at an astounding 9 under par, is young Rory McIlroy

Those who teed off early got the benefit of a windless and dry course. If golfers stayed out of the bunkers, low scores were out there to be had.

Mystery man, Ivor Robson, official first-tee starter for Open Championship since 1975

Rory McIlroy, who only turned 21 a few months ago has always been viewed as the next great one and Europeans are justly proud of him. Sitting in second place at 8 under par, all by himself is Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa.

Five golfers are bunched together at 6 under par, headed up by American John Daly, he of the bright colored pants. Daly, a former winner of the Open Championship is a crowd favorite everywhere, but especially at the Old Course at St. Andrews, the site of his 1995 championship.

Nine men are tied at 5 under par including Tiger Woods, Lucas Glover, Sean O'Hair, Y.E. Yang and Lee Westwood.

More than 70 golfers broke par on a course that can rip the guts out of even the best in the sport. But to do that, the weather has to be more Scotland-like. That was not the case today.

Because of the early start times off the first tee and the five-eight hour time difference, depending on where you are in the continental U.S. many fans will need to follow it while away from home.

To listen to live coverage,go to the Open Championship official website. It also provides podcasts that cover your favorite golfers after their rounds are over.

The website offers live video of the action, as well.

Directv is offering multi-channel coverage that allows a fan to watch the network feed, an international broadcast feed and a channel that focuses solely on the opening and closing holes.

Friday's round two tee times swap the lineup from Thursday. Those that played early will play later and vice-versa.
