Derek Jeter back with Minka, no gift baskets involved

Derek Jeter

Derek Jeter was spotted in Paris with ex-girlfriend Minka Kelly this weekend. The couple split this summer after three years together.

Reported by the N.Y. Post, with photos to prove it all, the couple were spotted hugging and being playful with each other outside a basilica in the French capital, as Kelly snapped a photo of them with her cell phone.

Jeter, replete with hooded parka and Minka in her trademark ponytail were sightseeing on a cold day and more importantly, together after a four month absence from each other.

Kelly was a constant presence in a luxury suite box at Yankee Stadium, along with Jeter's immediate family as he ground it out towards breaking the 3,000 hit mark. After he got there on July 9 an HBO documentary was released, with Minka Kelly prominently featured speaking about her boyfriend. Read: Who's making all the money from Jeter's 3,000th hit?

It was a clear departure from previous relationship behavior by Jeter, who never hides his many conquests or dating partners, but has never wanted any to speak about him in media.

Allowing Kelly to join members of his family and longtime friends to speak on camera was considered a sign, in many circles that the couple were headed to an official engagement.

It was not meant to be however, as the couple split the very next month. Kelly was ensconced in Miami, filming the television show "Charlie's Angels" an ABC attempt to revive the hit show from the '70's.

While only those closest to the couple know for sure what caused the breakup of this very long relationship, Minka Kelly's work in Miami was cited as a contributing factor by those close to her. People magazine quoted a source as saying, "They care about each other and it was amicable. They're still friends."

In the HBO documentary, Jeter revealed that one of the driving forces behind his surprising decision to participate in the film, was to have a record of his accomplishments to share with a child of his own when the time comes.

He spoke longingly of watching teammates bring their kids to the stadium, knowing that as his career comes to a close, he won't be able to share that experience. It made the breakup with Minka all that more surprising.

"Charlie's Angels" got cancelled pretty quickly by ABC, after it failed to garner enough viewer support to keep it on the schedule. In the meantime, Derek Jeter reportedly returned to his pre-Minka dating days.

One interesting report from a couple of weeks ago revealed that Jeter had "lovely parting gifts" for his dates, given to them by the chauffeur of the limo that took them home from Jeter's pad at Trump Tower. They came in the form of gift baskets, reportedly of varying sizes and value.

"While the parting gift may seem cold, signed Jeter memorabilia sell like hotcakes on the Internet, with an autographed baseball fetching hundreds and even thousands of dollars," reported the Post. Instead of a flower delivery the next morning, Jeter supplied his dates with an immediate thank-you that can be kept for the sake of memories or cashed in.

Looks like the gift baskets will be on hold for now.
