Giuliana Rancic's absence from E!'s Fashion Police was glaring. Her chair was filled by many a pretender, none of which could hold a candle to her.
Rancic is the perfect blend for the show, hosted by Joan Rivers, with regulars Kelly Osbourne and stylist George Kotsiopoulos.
She is usually careful not to hurt anyone's feelings, while providing comments that reflect her own sense of fashion. Rancic is sweet without being able to balance that with some fun and sarcasm.
During her maternity leave, the show tried out a number of ladies to fill the role of Giuliana
Kris Jenner: The Kardashian Momager provided little of any value during her stint on the show. Most of her critiques were direct quotes from the other panelists and she used the word "amazing" more than one person should in the span of a half-hour show.
Joanna Garcia Swisher: The actress and wife of baseball player Nick Swisher brought some life to the panel. She was a little bit of a different voice. While somewhat knowledgeable she was never nasty. Joanna offered solutions to the problems she saw rather than just criticizing a look.
Kimora Lee Simmons: Probably the best fill-in of all, Simmons is actually in the fashion business and was a model from her early teens. What we got from Kimora was insight into who styled the star, how the dress or outfit evolved from the runway sample and more.
With Giuliana back at her post, the Fashion Police tackled the sight of Nicole Scherzinger in a dress that not only lit up, but streamed Twitter.
Yes boys and girls, the former Pussycat Doll member not only "shone" from 3,000 Swarovski crystals sewn into the black long gown, but fans could read her Twitter feed while feasting their eyes on her.
Reports from the media who were there say there were 2,000 LED lights that created the running text from her waist down. It was designed by fashion-technology house CuteCircuit.
The decision to put the feed at that spot made Joan Rivers exclaim:
"I think it is amazing. It is the newest thing in social media. What's interesting is that is sends out tweets from the woman's vagina."
Rivers continued: "It is not called a Twitter dress. It is called a tw---ter dress. The only negative is that when the dress needs altering, you have to bring it back to Radio Shack."
George, Kelly and Giuliana raved about it. Kelly even said that aside from the Twitter feed, it is the best dress she's seen on Nicole in a heck of a long time.
Giuliana added: "I absolutely love this too. You know, if she were wearing this to the Globes or the Emmys it would make no sense. It's a tech party (4G event in London) so it's perfect."
