Jessica Simpson announced her business deal with Weight Watchers today. The agreement to be a spokesperson for the Points Plus program is for a reported $4 million.
Jessica Simpson just revealed why she hasn’t been publicly dedicated to losing the baby weight after giving birth to her daughter Maxwell. She was in talks to endorse and take part in the Weight Watchers weight loss family.
Simpson, 31 told fans about it on her Facebook page on Thursday.
“The cool thing about the program is that it focuses on healthy habits for the long-term (and I can still indulge in my guilty pleasures every now and then, too), I have actually gotten a group of friends together who are going to be doing it with me.”
Her own mini-WW meeting perhaps?
While Jessica Simpson told People magazine that she just wants to get healthy and not focus on a goal weight, Weight Watchers members know that the goal is a must.
"There's not a goal weight – I just want to feel normal and fixate on inches," she says. "I really want to set small goals, so I'm constantly reaching goals and not looking at something so far ahead."
Perhaps she needs to get well acquainted with the Weight Watchers PointsPlus program. Read: Weight Watchers makes changes for 2012 to its PointsPlus program.
Ms. Simpson now joins the ranks of current poster girl for the program, Jennifer Hudson and Charles Barkley the face of Weight Watchers for Men.
Her daughter Maxwell Drew, born on May 1, 2012 weighed in at a hefty 9 lbs. and 13 ozs so it’s no wonder that Jessica looked very large before she gave birth.
But now it’s back to business for the successful and wealthy businesswoman. Her clothing line takes constant attention and she just finished the first season of a fashion reality show, “Fashion Star,” whose claim to fame is the ability of fans to purchase clothing from the show the morning after an episode airs.
Simpson is engaged to former NFL player Eric Johnson who she says is “Is already the best Dad.”
Simpson shot to fame as a pop singer and then starred in one of the early reality shows that are based on couple life. "Newlyweds" premise was that Jessica Simpson was naive and sort of a classic "dumb blonde," which her business acumen has shown to be a mere plotline rather than "reality."
One of the more famous phrases, or infamous depending on your view, that emerged from the show was when Simpson looked at a can of “Chicken of the Sea” tuna and said, “Is this chicken, what I have, or is this fish? I know it's tuna, but it says 'Chicken by the Sea.'”
She and her then-husband, singer Nick Lachey managed to keep the show going during 2003-2005.The show ended as the marriage came apart in 2005 after only three years of wedded bliss. Simpson went on to date some of the most eligible and handsome bachelors on the celebrity scene.
Prior to her engagement to Johnson she was in a very high profile relationship with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. She was also linked to singer John Mayer who has been less than discreet about his time with Simpson.
And now Ms. Jessica Simpson begins the long process of changing her eating habits and following the Weight Watchers program. You can bet you’ll be hearing and seeing a lot more about this new business arrangement as the pounds start to melt away. Read: Weight Watchers says this is the "Year to Believe"
