Joan Rivers crowns 2012 SAG Awards best and worst dressed

Joan Rivers

Joan and the Fashion Police examined the fashions sported by attendees at the 2012 SAG Awards and surprisingly there were more winners than losers.

The usual panel of fashion critics joined Ms. Rivers for the hour-long gab fest: E! News personality Giuliana Rancic, Sharon and Ozzie's little girl Kelly Osbourne and stylist George Kotsipoulos.

Joan Rivers and the gang noted that black was the color trend of the night. Of the many lovely women draped in black, the group lauded some as Best Dressed Nominees:

How did Joan and the gang like the 2012 Golden Globe fashions?

Angelina Jolie: Clad in a black halter top gown with draping at the bodice and down one side of the dress.

She wore the perfect gold accents with her hair left long around her shoulders. While her style was considered "perfection" by the group, Joan had to mention her skinny body looking like a scene out of "Schindler's List".

George K jumped in with the same opinion saying, "I totally agree with you. This looks like "Goth Angie" compared to what she looked like 10 years ago."

Emma Stone: While Stone won kudos for her black tea length gown, her shoes were a point of controversy among the Fashion Police. Rivers noted that the look of the dress was "young and fresh" and George chimed in that the length was perfect.

As for the shoes, well the panel noted that while wearing a stunning Alexander McQueen gown they were out of place. Rancic suggested a "..double -stacked Louboutin or something high fashion with a pointed toe," would have been perfect.

Rivers noted that so many of the ladies were wearing black that it seemed "...that everyone but Heidi Klum was in love with black this year."

Vivid colors were not in short supply on the red carpet and some of the ladies shone brighter than others:

Sofia Vergara
in fuchsia, was called stunning, perfection and drop-dead gorgeous, in turn by each member of the Fashion Police. There was one note of caution however because Vergara appears to be wearing the same or a very similar styled gown at all her recent red carpet appearances.

The consensus was that once the bombshell Latina finally found a silhouette that suited her, she kept it. " If it ain't broke don't fix it," Giuliana said. Rivers smilingly noted that she takes a great deal of the responsibility for goading the "Modern Family" star into finding the right stylist for her.

Jessica Chastain, part of the ensemble cast of "The Help" in electric blue was a mixed bag of thumbs up as well as thumbs down in the group of four critics. Joan said, "She makes forgettable look effortless. It's too low, it's too flat. You just want to yank the bodice up," as the panel cringed.

But, Kelly Osbourne seemed to agree that "It just didn't do anything for me." Giuliana Rancic ended the discussion by lauding the strawberry blonde for looking chic, but conservative.

Muted tones and white were well represented on Sunday night and two in particular caught the eye of the Fashion Police, both of whom represented the ensemble cast of "The Help".

Best Actress winner Viola Davis drew some of the most lavish praise given, including George K's comment, "I think her breasts look delicious." Davis wore a Grecian style white gown

Giuliana raved, "I think she looked flawless." with the bodice accent color against her skin, the perfect accessories and a hair style that accompanied the look.

Best Supporting Actress winner Octavia Spencer was lauded for not only the choice of the dress but the subtle, lavender color and her air of supreme confidence as she strutted her stuff.

"I think she looked fabulous," Rivers exclaimed, but she thought that perhaps a lower waist gown would have been better for her figure. George gave Spencer the highest praise, complimenting her stylist for her hair style and jewelry accents. "She looked exactly how the runway model looked in the gown except she's not a sample size and I love it."

Stunning couples dotted the red carpet Sunday night:

Ashlee Simpson and her boyfriend, Vincent Piazza from the cast of "Boardwalk Empire" made a pretty pair in the opinion of the panel. Joan said that she was stunned that Ashlee had matured into a stylish young woman. "I just want to say congratulations to her stylist and her plastic surgeon."

Kelly Osbourne gushed that Ashlee had become "...a woman. When I saw her on the carpet I couldn't believe it was her." Her short bobbed hair style was perfection. Rancic called her elegant and also noted that the hair style was risky and that not everyone could have pulled it off

SAG Best Actor nominee George Clooney and current love Stacy Keibler
were lauded for their style. Of course Joan had to joke that "Stacy was so excited, her agent called that day to say that George had 'picked her up for another 13 weeks.'"

Clooney sported his always flattering Armani suit and Keibler was wearing a black Marchesa gown that the ladies and George K judged as "the best way to represent a Plus 1 at an awards show." Kelly and Giuliana agreed that she chose the best way to compliment her date and not upstage him.

Best Dressed: Of the three women nominated by the group, Ashlee Simpson, Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer, the consensus was that Ashlee Simpson was the most stunning fashion presence on the carpet.

Worst Dressed: Heather Morris of "Glee" took the honor, so to speak for her appearance in a dress that featured black filmy panels of material that draped from above the knee to the floor, attached to what appeared to George K to be a "club dress".

George said "The dress is wrong, the shoes are wrong, the hair is wrong." Giuliana ended the discussion by comparing the dress to something Britney Spears wore one year, saying that at least Spears had an excuse because she doesn't know any better.

Joan screamed, "Street walker," as she looked at the video clip of Morris on the red carpet. The panel gagged when wondering what the heck she was thinking.
