Low-cal smoothies for vacation, made easy

Summer vacations can knock the weight conscious off track. Try a portable blender for smoothies on-the go.

Smoothies and blended drinks of any kind are a summertime treat.

When you're home, taking out the blender while cracking open an ice tray to create drinks is convenient.

Don't let that vacation away from home change a thing. The portable blender is one sure way for you to fix drinks you can control.

If you rent a home, condo or choose a hotel with a kitchen, set yourself up for success. There are many brands to choose from.

Hamilton Beach offers a personal blender with a travel lid that's great even at home for your work commute. A 14-ounce blender cup will fit in most auto cup holders. It sells for as little as $14.69.

LaCuisine sells an 18-ounce version that operates on two AA batteries for a bit more than $10.00.

What do you make once you unpack it?

Weight Watchers sells smoothie mixes that are good for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. If you're not a member, eBay sells small boxes of the mix online.

Take WW's Coconut Smoothie mix for instance. Mix it with milk and fruit and you might feel like you're enjoying a tropical drink. Add rum or vodka and you can enjoy a cocktail along with the rest of the crowd.

Here are a couple of recipes that are great for a vacation treat. They are easy to prepare and the ingredients are a snap to get during travel time.
