NEC Launches Innovative Solution, "IP Messaging"

NEC Corporation announced that it has launched innovative next generation messaging solution "IP Messaging". NEC's IP Messaging solution draws together the best and most effective aspects of SMS and MMS brings it to life with mobile IM.

By incorporating a familiar user interface based on popular SMS schemes and then seamlessly integrating the other messaging types within a single client and user experience, IP Messaging by its very nature will drive, usage, acceptance and favour by subscribers. Furthermore, since the NEC solution enables the service to interwork with the various existing messaging types (SMS, MMS and mobile IM), IP Messaging will network with the mobile operators' existing messaging infrastructure as well as the messaging system of other licensed operators, thus enabling worldwide reach.

Outliving many analyst predictions, SMS continues to be one of the most successful mainstream mobile services, second only to voice, growing both in terms of usage and reach. However, all is not well for SMS. Price competition and the bundling of services are driving down revenues generated from peer-to-peer SMS.
