In attempt to take Kim Kardashian's "assets" off the market, a mystery buyer is looking to purchase the rights to an infamous sex tape featuring the newlywed Kardashian and former boyfriend, R&B singer Ray J, from the adult video producer that currently owns it.
The anonymous client recently contacted Nashville attorney Adam Dread in an effort to obtain the rights to sex tape of Kardashian, who just this month married New Jersey Nets forward Kris Humphries.
"Recently, I was approached by a private party that asked us to look into the possibility of acquiring all rights (and copies) of the Vivid 'Kim Kardashian Sex Tape,'" Dread explained in the letter obtained by CNN.
Dread would not disclose the name of the party interested in buying the tape, which many credit as helping catapult Kardashian and, in turn, her family into stardom, but did say that the mystery client was not looking to redistribute or sell the sex tape and was also pursuing the purchase any other footage involving the now Mrs. Humphries.
The video in question, Kim Kardashian Superstar, is currently owned by Vivid Entertainment, which has offered the sex tape for purchase on the website kimksuperstar.com since 2007.
Despite being nearly four years old, Kim Kardashian Superstar saw a major increase in traffic and sales over the weekend in which the E! starlet and the professional basketball player exchanged vows, according to Vivid chief Steven Hirsch.
While Hirsch said that he believed Dread's letter was simply a case of someone pulling his chain, he indicated that Vivid is, at the very least, open to discussing the possibility of selling the Kardashian sex tape.
"I was surprised to receive the attorney's letter offering to buy kimksuperstar.com," Hirsch told CNN Tuesday. "Initially, I thought the offer wasn't real, but after reading it through a second time, I am definitely intrigued."
After Kim Kardashian Superstar was leaked in 2007, Kardashian sued Vivid Entertainment in attempt to claim ownership of the tape. Kardashian later dropped the suit against Vivid and agreed to a settlement that netted her a cut of the video's sales and $5 million from the adult video producer.
