In celebration of her award-winning and record-breaking 2011 album, Lady Gaga announced plans this week for a "Born This Way Ball" world tour in 2012, including select dates in Asia and Australasia.
Lada Gaga is expected to play as many of 110 shows on her upcoming world tour odyssey and has revealed the first eleven planned dates for the "Born This Way Ball" showcase, which the pop superstar refers to as a "Pop-Opera."
"The Haus of Gaga and I have worked for months conceiving a spectacular stage," Lady Gaga said in a statement. "The Born This Way Ball is an Electro-Metal Pop-Opera; the tale of the Beginning, the genesis of the Kingdom of Fame. How we were birthed and how we will die celebrating."
Tentatively, Lady Gaga's 2012 world tour will begin in Seoul, South Korea with a show at Olympic Stadium on April 27th. From there, the tantalizing performer will play shows Hong Kong, Tokyo and Singapore in May, followed by select concerts in Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne in June. The last of the announced "Born This Way Ball" dates is a July 7th showcase in Perth, Australia on July 7th.
The North American portion of Lady Gaga's upcoming world tour is expected to begin sometime in early 2013, with an announcement of concert dates to be issued in the coming months. The entertainer previously revealed plans for a 2012 tour during the launch of her second "Born This Way" single, "Judas," and mentioned that she would be making stops in numerous Latin American countries, including Colombia, Brazil and Mexico.
If Lady Gaga's last tour, "Monster Ball Tour," is any indication, the "Born This Way Ball" tour should be a scorching hot ticket item. Running from late 2009 through 2011, "Monster Ball Tour" included more than 200 concert dates and grossed more than $227 million in ticket sales, and earned the eighth spot on Billboard's annual, "Top 25 Tours," for that year.
Released in May of 2011, Lady Gaga's second studio album, "Born This Way," sold more than 1.1 million copies in its first week of release, and debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The synthpop and dance-pop heavy album has since sold more than 8 million copes worldwide.
