Man forgoes heart surgery to watch Michigan-Michigan State game

Meet Major Henry, a devout Michigan State fan, who is willing to roll the dice on his own personal health, and possibly his life, to watch the 17th-ranked Spartans square off against 18th-ranked state and conference-rival Michigan Wolverines this weekend.

Henry, who suffers from a weakened heart muscle condition called cardiomyopathy, was supposed to have an operation performed this week to install a pacemaker in his chest; however, he is unwilling to do so because of fears that something could potentially happen to him during the medical procedure that would prevent him from viewing the game between the two undefeated Big 10 teams.

"You never know," Hester explained to The Detroit News. "It's like going into combat. You may come home alive or you may come home dead."

So, instead of heeding to doctor's orders, the 69-year-old will play Russian roulette with his health and wait till after the weekend to have the operation performed.

“Whatever happens, I want to see the game,” said Hester.

I hope that the next time we read about Mr. Henry it is not in the Obituary section of The Detroit News.

The Denard Robinson Show

No player in college football has had as profound a season as Michigan's sophomore quarterback Denard Robinson.

The 6-foot-0, 193-lb Robinson has systematically destroyed teams all on his own this season and is an early favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.

The Michigan State defense will have its hands full trying to corral the Heisman-hopeful, who has been practically unstoppable this season.

Through five games, Robinson has accounted for 68 percent of Michigan's total offense, throwing for 1,008 yards and 7 touchdowns, with just one interception, and leading the nation in rushing with 905 yards (with a staggering 9.2 yards-per-carry average).

Robinson is also tied for second in the nation with 8 rushing touchdowns.

Can the Spartans rush defense, which has given up 101.2 ypg on the ground this season thus far (ranked 20th nationally), put an end to Robinson's reign of terror on the field?

Find out Saturday, October 9th, when Michigan State takes on Michigan in Ann Arbor in a game televised on ABC. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 PM ET.
