Man who blamed cat for obscenity on computer sentenced

Pets are easy targets for blame when accidents occur. Whether you are telling the teacher that the dog ate your homework or that it was the gerbil that knocked over your mother's expensive Ming vase, pets receive the brunt of false accusations simply because they have no way of defending themselves.

Example
Wife: “Did you just fart?”
Husband: “No, honey, that was the parakeet.”
Wife: “Well, ok then.”

One thing you probably will not be able to blame on your pet is downloading child pornography on your computer. That excuse is just not going to fly.

A Jensen Beach, Florida, man learned that lesson the hard way after prosecutors did not buy his “it was the cat that downloaded the kiddy porn” excuse.

Jensen Beach man receives 12 1/2 year prison sentence

The man in question, 49-year-old Keith Griffin, was forced to plead no contest to 25 felony charges relating to the possession of child pornography images found on his computer and now faces twelve and a half years in prison.

According to the TCPalm, Griffin attempted to persuade Martin County sheriff's deputies that it was in fact his cat that had downloaded the illegal images on his computer after it jumped on his keyboard while the man was not home.

Originally charged with over 100 counts of possession of child pornography, prosecutors dropped that total down to 25 counts in exchange for Griffin's no contest plea. Investigators noted that over 1,000 illegal images were found on the man's computer.

The sentence, handed down by Circuit Judge Sherwood Bauer, involves 12 ½ years prison time for each count, with the sentences running concurrently.

Griffin will be credited with giving one of the dumbest excuses ever to police and with 397 days in jail for time already served, and he will be added to the Florida sex offender registry.
