In anticipation of the band's latest LP, "Port of Morrow," The Shins announced this week that they will be bringing their trademark indie rock sound to North America as part of a 2012 summer tour.
Currently on tour in Europe, The Shins revealed a number of upcoming dates for concerts overseas, as well as the group's North American lineup in 2012. With the announcement also came the release of the B-side to the band's first single, "Simple Song."
The B-side track, "September" can now be viewed below and will be available for purchase on February 14th. "Port of Morrow," the group's fourth studio album and its first since the 2007 release of "Wincing the Night Away," is scheduled to debut on March 20th under The Shins' front man James Mercer's new LP label, "Aural Apothecary."
Regarding the upcoming tour dates, The Shins will play a series of sets at 'South by Southwest' festival in Austin Texas from March 13-18, followed by a series of concerts in London, Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin and Stockholm.
After a brief hiatus, The Shins will officially begin the North American portion of their 2012 tour with a show at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 13th. Tentatively, The Shins' 2012 summer concert series is expected to stretch through June where it is scheduled to conclude at the Iroquois Amphitheatre in Louisville, Missouri on the 9th of that month.
If The Shins' last album is any indication, big things could be shaping up for the Oregon-based indie rockers. "Wincing the Night Away," the group's 2007 release, debuted at No.2 on the Billboard 200 chart, with 100,000 copies sold in its first week of availability, and later received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Alternative Music Album in 2008.
