An officer approached the suspect, believed to be in his 20s or 30s. The man then shot at police and disappeared into a house at 100 Whitmore Road.

Police searched and evacuated houses in the area. They also searched the building where the shooter fled, but have not found him. The Tech 9 machine gun the shooter used has been recovered.

There is an elementary school, M.D. Fox Elementary school in the area of the incident which has been closed for the day because of the shooting and the search. Students who did arrive at school were moved to a high school in the area until their parents could get them.

This is the third incident in Hartford this year
