The internet and its users are back and forth on Jan Brewer's hasty conversation with President Obama at an Arizona airport yesterday.
The Obamas, both Michelle and Barack, have taken their fair share of criticism by published authors in the past two weeks. Arizona Governor Jan Brewer claims Obama didn't think she treated him "cordially" in her immigration book. So Jan Brewer set out to discuss her book with the President of the United States at the airport tarmac of all places. After the President exited Air Force One.
The end result of Brewer's decision to approach a sitting President is headline news this morning. The story broke just before midnight Wednesday (1/25//2012). Brewer's finger is in Obama's face and her mouth is wide open. Brewer looks like a very angry woman. But it's hard to believe her anger is the result of a Democratic president who disapproves of her immigration book.
For the record, Jodi Kantor endured rounds of interviews and impatient reporters, particularly on CNN, after her book, "The Obamas" was released earlier this month. But in spite of the many criticisms Kantor endured on live television, Kantor remained poised and collected. She didn't raise her finger or her voice. Ever.
In response to the Brewer flap, the White House is tweeting Obama's stance on immigration. In his State of the Union address last night, Obama broached immigration allotting almost two minutes of his entire speech to the Dream Act.
You can watch that clip from the White House here.
It's not likely that The White House will respond to Jan Brewer's airport greeting (meltdown). Obama said what he had to say, Brewer tried to say what she had to say, but the taller and cooler Obama walked off. Reportedly, they both said what they had to say simultaneously.
The Washington Post details the exchange here.
President Obama's had a great week. 91 percent of Americans polled said they approve of his State of the Union address. President Obama's ratings are up to 44 percent. That's good enough to garner re-election. Many Democrats are overjoyed that Newt Gingrich is faring well in the early caucuses. There's a photoshopped image of Obama in the Oval Office laughing heartedly while the Washington Post headline reads: Newt Gingrich wins SC. The image and the headlines of the Washington Post are all photoshopped. Social media geeks are readily familiar with the photoshopped black and white funny.
Yet, the photoshopped image's message is clear. There are elements in the Democratic party who believe Obama's re-election is a sure thing should Newt Gingrich garner the GOP nomination.
Nancy Pelosi suggested all day yesterday that Newt Gingrich would never be the Republican nominee. She told CNN that she "knows something." What that "something" is she knows about Newt Gingrich, Pelosi isn't revealing. Gingrich, in response to Pelosi, laughed Pelosi off. Meanwhile, CNN contributor Roland Martin said that Pelosi's a smart woman. Martin virtually doubted that Pelosi was bluffing about whatever she has on Newt Gingrich.
In the meantime, Michelle Obama fans are in an uproar with the Jan Brewer incident. Many readers feel Jodi Kantor's book portrayed Michelle Obama as an "angry black woman." Hence, they're upset that Brewer isn't being cast across media headlines as an angry white woman.
If Brewer's anger with Obama is totally and fully rooted in his criticism of her book, Brewer's an immature author. Writers, publishers, authors, pundits, bloggers---anyone who publishes, understands their work won't be appreciated by everyone. A more valid explanation of Brewer's frustration may be that her party's had a bad go of it since the caucuses began.
And any time Obama has a good run of it for two weeks in a row, the country gets euphoric. They become excited that the Barack Obama Senator guy from Chicago is back. The young politician who spoke well and delivered dreamily and made everyone feel better about being American. That pro-country euphoria in the souls of Democrats and Independents is a consequential negative for the Republican party.
A party that has, in the George W. Bush eras, rallied around patriotism and American spirit to galvanize the GOP base. And win elections.
That won't work this time. Even Brewer, after her testy exchange, said that it's clear she and the President love this country.
And after everything that was said between Brewer and the President, Brewer's assessment on bipartisan love of country is certainly, 'nuf said.

#4 Angry White Woman
Regardless of what Ms. Brewer wished to say, Obama is a sitting President. At no time is it considered in good manners, grace, or behavior to put your finger in his face and tell him off- unless you're his wife.
