Smirnoff introduces sorbet flavored cocktails for weight watchers

Drinking responsibly has multiple meanings for Smirnoff and weight watchers. Three new fruit flavored cocktails tease tastebuds, but not waistlines.

Smirnoff, the king of vodka, has over 9 million Facebook "likes" and keeps growing thanks to three brand new sorbet flavors branded with the treasured word "light" that dieters love to see on labels. The three flavors were introduced this week.

The new cocktails: lemon, raspberry pomegranates and mango passion fruit are advertised as "a reduced-calorie, natural flavor, and refreshingly light tasting." This new line of vodka specialties is 78 calories per 1.5 oz. serving and creates scrumptious, light-tasting cocktails. Each flavor retails at $15.99 for a 750mL bottle.

The new 60 proof cocktails have some summoning the weekend in hurry. In the middle of the excitement and the hype, Smirnoff seriously cautions consumers with its own Facebook memes to drink responsiblythat the "party is only good when you remember it."

"SMIRNOFF Sorbet Light is the next flavor experience for those women who strive to lead a balanced lifestyle, but never at the expense of delicious cocktails," said Sandhya Padmanabhan, Brand Manager for SMIRNOFF. "Today's multifaceted woman inspired SMIRNOFF to think differently and create a product that would make guilt free, delectable drinks that truly embody the refreshingly light taste of sorbet."

The new Sorbet Light cocktails have 25% fewer calories than the leading dessert-inspired flavored vodkas, Smirnoff assures. The cocktails are "lighter tasting and don't taste like they are a sacrifice."

Bethenny Frankel introduced diet inspired cocktails with her Skinny Girl Margaritas brand when she merged with Jim Beam in 2011. Since then, diet cocktails have taken off and most of its products are advertised toward women worried about weight and waistlines.

Smirnoff isn't sweating competitors. With its announcement of its new sorbet cocktails, Smirnoff is only reasserting its dominance. Smirnoff also delivered a couple of recipes wit its new cocktails, just in time for the weekend and the spring celebrations.
