Jay-Z and Beyonce, soon after announcing the birth of their first child together and soon after their first child's hit record, have announced the Godparents.
UPDATE: 1/27/2012: CBS's Gayle King says the story that Oprah Winfrey is Baby Blue's Godmother are not true. King said that Oprah hasn't had time to send a gift and that Winfrey has been away during the child's birth.

And while it's every new mom's wish to have the inimitable Oprah Winfrey for a Godmom, it's a real thing for baby Blue, Sean Carter and his wife Beyonce Knowles. The addition of Winfrey to their entourage gives onlookers and fans another perspective on the Carters as celebrity family and couple.
Their choice of Oprah Winfrey as their child's Godmother also offers the public a glimpse of the serious regard that Jay-Z and Beyonce hold their their ideologies--a seriousness that extends far beyond their celebrity personas and the lyrics of their respective hip hop, R&B and pop genres.
In other words, Jay-Z and Beyonce, much like Prince and Michael Jackson of yesteryear, are intensely private people. As Beyonce rose from Destiny's Child, her circles become smaller and more elite. Gossip and hearsay all but came to a hilt. No more stories of seeing Beyonce at a random restaurant or radio station here or there or being taunted by the likes of shock jocks and haters. The star was snatched from the universe and pushed into the galaxy with others equally as wealthy and as famous.
Enter Oprah Winfrey.
Jay-Z is, again, Forbes Magazine's top 5 wealthiest "rappers." Jay-Z, according to Forbes make less money in his genre to one one other, P.Diddy. Beyonce's net worth in 2011 was a reported $300 million.
While Blue Ivy's parents are millionaires, her Godmother, Oprah Winfrey, is a billionaire. Oprah Winfrey's legacy is that of a teacher, a bit of a spiritualist and healer. Oprah gives interviews that soothe viewers. For a while, people said Winfrey was a new age thinker who touted new age religion. She was reshaping her brand and extending her legacy for an unprecedented 25 seasons, only to launch bigger and better interviews on the OWN Network.
Yet, through her guests and best friend Gayle, audiences discovered that Oprah Winfrey's new age religion was really something more like Hinduism meets Christianity. Oprah's conversation and interviews center, almost always, on an individual's journey to inner peace.
As Blue Ivy becomes the youngest person on record to make Billboard's top ten, her father's tributes to her reveal more information about the furtive Jay-Z and Beyonce.
Blue Ivy is Mr. and Mrs. Sean Carter's second child. Their first child miscarried and Jay-Z has been tender enough to rap about it. This song, "Glory" is news for elite pop culture critics because miscarriage hasn't had a place in rap music or hip hop. Certainly, new parents--rappers--have reflected on the birth of their child or the lives of their children (ie. Will Smith and Eminem), but the death of a child or a miscarriage is a new.
Jay-Z's record "Glory" makes mention of the "last miscarriage" that was so tragic. (See lyrics). "Glory" further serves as proof that despite the celebrity fanfare, Jay-Z and Beyonce really do lead private leaves. They've managed to keep their personal lives out of the tabloids.
And while many thought Beyonce was newly pregnant when she showed her famous "baby rump," few, except the Jay-Z and Beyonce inner circle, knew when Beyonce's baby was actually due.
In fact, many speculated Beyonce was in the hospital ahead of time and had supposed the singer wasn't actually due until February or Spring. Information that fed well in the gossip mill because no one knew and those who did wouldn't dare share---or violate the trust of the Carter family.
Reportedly, Winfrey sent a gift trunk of children's books to Baby Blue Carter. In all of Winfrey's philanthropic endeavors, she's quite noted for her book club, love of education and her gifts and sponsorship of opportunities that provide new books to public school libraries in depressed areas, like Katrina's New Orleans, for students.
Baby Blue Ivy Carter's Godfather is Jay-Z's friend, Tyran "Ty Ty" Smith.
