Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski has served in Alaska since 2002. Murkowski is the third incumbent ousted from the senate this primary season.

In Kentucky, Nevada, and now Alaska, outsiders who ran on the tea-party platform won in their races against their moderate Republican colleagues. Florida's Charlie Crist (R) was removed by Republican conservative Mario Rubio before the primary.
Lisa Murkowski is a moderate conservative. She backs abortion rights and relies of federal money to fund Alaskan needs.
Murkowski became Alaska's Senator in 2002 when her father, Frank Murkowski was elected Governor. In 2006, Sarah Palin went on to defeat Murkowski in the governor's race.

In November, Alaskan voters will choose between Jim Miller, who graduated from Yale Law and Scott McAdams (D). McAdams is the small town fisherman mayor of Sitka.
Murkowski's camp hasn't endorsed Jim Miller for the November primaries. If she does, it would be a hard stump because Miler favors getting rid of social security.
