Project Runway Finale video: Why did Anya win?

Why did Anya Chee win Project Runway season 9? What were the judges thinking? And how many fans are really done with the show?

The best explanation why and how Anya Chee won Project Runway Season 9 is that everyone from Heidi Klum to Michael Kors has a bit of a girl crush on Anya. She's pretty, tall, and she's got a fancy vocab interwoven with a really cool British Island accent.

And Anya likes prints.

Project Runway's season finale winner couldn't have been more disappointing for Josh. Josh, love him or leave him, did a great job on the runway. Everything about his show as "cool" in the true sense of the word. Not cool like a tropical breeze in the Bahamas, or Trinidad and Tobago, but cool as in can wear in Manhattan or Kentucky all day everyday.

Many fans expressed disappointment that Viktor (the new Mondo) didn't win. Viktor wasn't in the top two. His sheer fabric, Michael Kors noted, was runway mockery. Whimsically wrapped teens in goth, rock, hard core designs but sheer fabric didn't go over with the judges. Point blank, Viktor's dark side, or his evening looks, really were clothes for juniors with not so conservative parents or parents who don't pay attention.

Kim's collection was the more memorable of the four. Kim's colors were catchy, fresh and new. Even if the patterns weren't totally appealing. Kim is 35, but she comes across on camera a lot younger. On stage as she presented her collection, Kim seemed a bit unsure of herself.

So back to Anya. Why was she there anyway? As far as most watchers are concerned, she shouldn't have been in the finale. She had one design to show the judges and the other two were. Well. Hmm... Really bad.

Anya's runway collection wasn't exactly fun. Anya's collection was more of Anya. So it's a good thing that Anya is so Anya because quite frankly, had she been a mean girl or any other type of runway participant, Anya's collection and her win would be, for lack of better words, hard to swallow. But Anya's so cool. We don't really hate her. We hate that she just learned to sew.

But we love that she passionately put her stuff together at the last minute all season and made it work.

Okay, so back to the serious question. Why did Anya win Project Runway? Words can't really describe it, but the video from Fashion Week does. If we keep in mind that 8 designers showed at Project Runway (remember Bryce, Bert, Laura and Anthony Ryan?) and then pair their work against the four from last night, it's easier to see why Anya won.

Anthony Ryan's bright red and feisty colors matched Kimberly's equally feisty and fun colors. Bert's classic and clean collection made Viktor's work look somewhat week and juvenile.

The only unique perspective on the runway in sandals and espadrilles despite nine similar necklines was Anya's. And Josh's.

Watch for yourself. The 8 final Project Runway contestants at New York Fashion Week this September 2011.

Seriously, the judges have no credibility; this should be an embarrassment for them; all their big talks throught the many seasons of this show about fashion forward, collections etc. and now this blunder, it’s all rigged up so miss popularity heidi’s favorite can win I am so pissed, frustrated and of course done watching this show

ARE YOU ALL SERIOUS? DONT BE STUPID!!! Anya's talent faaaar exceed any of the other participants ,if she can put together stuff at the last minute simply because the show had to move on within a certain time frame ,then imagine what she can do in her free time! O.o As far as I can see ,you're all judging from especially the last two segments ,all the other designs were really fashion forward =\ ,as one of the judges stated ,she is smart enough to put together the same if not better versions of what kimberly, victor & others had to offer ,she is now a professional designer ,she'll learn to be one & fast too ,i think some of you are just biased & mean ,get over it ,this girl is flawless!! Who wouldnt want to be her right? =P

no, when she was given time: she did nothing and then did three awful pieces because she focused on doing something different. then she made at the last minute the only thing she can do: some parero, long scraf dress. Any Haiwan native could design such dress five hundred ago, coming out the river. It's adorable and needs no time to make. Touareg men can also roll up a scarf on their head with no time, west african women know how to tight fabric to hold their baby in the back in no time. time is not the issue. anya has one style, that's all. her style does not need structure, sewing skills and vision. her style requires no time. time is a burden for Anya. anya will probably end up doing tv show or marry somebody famous while making some beach wear here and then.

They should hang there heads in shame. When Kors said "I can see what an Anya bag or shoe would look like" I almost hurled. It takes more than a canvas sack with a conch closure to make it fashion. But I guess that's what they need to fill out the merchandise in the kiosks at the Sheboygan Wisconsin malls. Something to carry when you're wearing your Michael Kors shades on spring break in Orlando. Fashion forward indeed.

Remember it's Project Runway, not Project Seamstress, as Michael Kors and others always said. Anya can design and has a unique perspective. Her other collections show her diversity. While sewing helps in the situation like this show - and of course would be an advantage as a designer - as a designer, you come up with the design, a pattern maker works to convert your design into something that can be actually sewn, and the sewing staff make it happen. The judges aren't foolish - they wouldn't have put her forward based solely on her story.

Anya CAN'T design..most of her clothing looks the same. There's hardly any variety. You don't have to be the best seamstress to win, but at least be able to make more than the same flowy dress.

Yeah everyone keeps using this not ProjectSeamstress line, then why or why have the judges been so furious about poor construction in the past???? They have to be consistent, either they care about it or they don't and in every other season they have! Suddenly when it suits Anya's win, they could care less. The judges overlooked her faults from the start. Plus because of her sex tape and because of the fact she's from Trinidad, she had 43% of the popular vote before the show even started. Maybe they were swayed by that?? Anyways, if construction doesn't matter then why are they making it a rule next year that designers are not allowed to use Glue and that all garments must have closures!! I bet the judges watched the season and heard the backlash and realized how clueless Anya really was (they never knew that her models had to get cut out of each garment). They probably realized that they looked like morons.
