Project Runway Finale video: Why did Anya win?

Why did Anya Chee win Project Runway season 9? What were the judges thinking? And how many fans are really done with the show?

The best explanation why and how Anya Chee won Project Runway Season 9 is that everyone from Heidi Klum to Michael Kors has a bit of a girl crush on Anya. She's pretty, tall, and she's got a fancy vocab interwoven with a really cool British Island accent.

And Anya likes prints.

Project Runway's season finale winner couldn't have been more disappointing for Josh. Josh, love him or leave him, did a great job on the runway. Everything about his show as "cool" in the true sense of the word. Not cool like a tropical breeze in the Bahamas, or Trinidad and Tobago, but cool as in can wear in Manhattan or Kentucky all day everyday.

Many fans expressed disappointment that Viktor (the new Mondo) didn't win. Viktor wasn't in the top two. His sheer fabric, Michael Kors noted, was runway mockery. Whimsically wrapped teens in goth, rock, hard core designs but sheer fabric didn't go over with the judges. Point blank, Viktor's dark side, or his evening looks, really were clothes for juniors with not so conservative parents or parents who don't pay attention.

Kim's collection was the more memorable of the four. Kim's colors were catchy, fresh and new. Even if the patterns weren't totally appealing. Kim is 35, but she comes across on camera a lot younger. On stage as she presented her collection, Kim seemed a bit unsure of herself.

So back to Anya. Why was she there anyway? As far as most watchers are concerned, she shouldn't have been in the finale. She had one design to show the judges and the other two were. Well. Hmm... Really bad.

Anya's runway collection wasn't exactly fun. Anya's collection was more of Anya. So it's a good thing that Anya is so Anya because quite frankly, had she been a mean girl or any other type of runway participant, Anya's collection and her win would be, for lack of better words, hard to swallow. But Anya's so cool. We don't really hate her. We hate that she just learned to sew.

But we love that she passionately put her stuff together at the last minute all season and made it work.

Okay, so back to the serious question. Why did Anya win Project Runway? Words can't really describe it, but the video from Fashion Week does. If we keep in mind that 8 designers showed at Project Runway (remember Bryce, Bert, Laura and Anthony Ryan?) and then pair their work against the four from last night, it's easier to see why Anya won.

Anthony Ryan's bright red and feisty colors matched Kimberly's equally feisty and fun colors. Bert's classic and clean collection made Viktor's work look somewhat week and juvenile.

The only unique perspective on the runway in sandals and espadrilles despite nine similar necklines was Anya's. And Josh's.

Watch for yourself. The 8 final Project Runway contestants at New York Fashion Week this September 2011.

I've never been so mad about a TV show. I think Josh was robbed, but Victor and Kimberly's collections were MUCH better than Anya's. Anya showed no separates, and like Heidi said herself most of her dresses had the same damn neckline. I just can't figure out how your rationalize this.

I have also never been so mad about a tv show for the exact points you said. I asked all season long so... when is she going to make a jacket? wasnt there a 2 look challenge and everyone made a jacket except her? i think its the episode with Victor's amazing braided leather jacket. she had to have bought the competition some how. Since when do we take the top 4 to fashion week? Her last minute looks don't cut it. She was still cutting people out of garments at fashion week. how embarrasing..

I love Anya collection. I am glad that she won. The other designers were terrible. Victor cannot find a middle ground between sexy and too commercial. Kimberly is too Urban. Polish it up a bit girl with some Class. Josh well Josh had way too many ideas in that collection. His collection was terrible. While Anya may not have done jackets etc. Hers was by far the best of the lot. If you guys think she should not have won then the other designers should have come up with something better.

Anya didn't do jackets, etc. because Anya couldn't design a jacket to save her life. No, it's not Project Seamstress, but what designer has no knowledge of sewing or construction or fabric (remember she didn't know about cutting on the bias?). We didn't see her designs up close... she used sheers to cut and construct. Did she even hem the dresses? And the judges said that out of her 10 dresses, 8 had the same low cut V neckline that most women wouldn't or couldn't wear. Is choosing print fabrics an "ability"? This was shameful how blatantly the judges passed over real design contenders. If they actually stood behind their words, they would have picked anyone else. Victor was my fave, but Kimberly had a great collection.

She actually won one of the challenges with a jacket, and a black one no less, no wild print. (The bias cutting problem was a different designer) Yes she hemmed the dresses they always showed her at the sewing station doing it at the last minute. And if you think about how may designers were sent home because of poor fabric choice, then yes, choosing the most appropriate print and using it correctly is an ability, some might even say a talent. So many of you forget these designs just have to look good on the runway, how they are sewn and constructed if figured out by the production.

One time that she did win for a dress, the same style was in her final show. In fact, Oscar helped her with the sleeves in that dress. Totally wrong.

have you ever watched this program pre-anya? The garments are and have always been sewn and constructed by each designer. Unless you have insider info that anya had help by the production people?

Anya can't SEW a jacket, as she admitted in one of the after the runway shows. Designing and sewing are obviously two different things. It made no sense for her to DESIGN a jacket on the show knowing that she could not SEW it. So she was actually limited in what she could design since she was limited in what she could sew. What is your basis then for saying Anya could not design a jacket to save her life? You have no proof. Also, the judges will face this dilemma (and therefore be open to serious criticism) every season ie how do you determine the best designer when the designer is limited by what and how well he can sew. The problem is inherent in the show because of the rules. But I guess it would be too expensive to equip each designer with qualified sewing teams and then then we will truly see the best designer. I congratulate Anya.

I think it was rigged, like most reality shows. When they sent them back to Mood with $500, I knew Anya would win. They were giving her a chance to redeem herself from that ugly gold fabric. One of my favorite shows just lost my heart last night. So sad.
