Detroit’s first Fiat dealership is official

Chrysler Group announced on Wednesday that they had selected approximately 165 existing Chrysler, Dodge, Ram and Jeep dealerships that will become Fiat dealerships when the cars hit US shores later this year. The company’s goal is to have 200 dealerships in 119 US markets in 2011 but the initial wave of Fiat franchises will begin popping up soon.

Chrysler did not provide any information as to which existing dealerships would be selling the Italian brand this year but thanks to the wonders of Facebook, we now know that Golling Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge-Ram will be one of the Detroit metro area’s first retailers of the 2011 Fiat 500. As one of the nation’s largest and highest volume Chrysler Group dealerships, it is no surprise that Bill Golling’s automotive empire will soon include the sport Italian subcompact. The 2011 Fiat 500 will arrive later this year followed by more variants of the same model

The toughest part for Chrysler was convincing existing dealerships in their network to agree to an investment in a new brand that will, at first, only offer a single vehicle for sale. Upon the brand’s launch later this year, the 2011 Fiat 500 will only be available as a 2-door hatchback model with a 1.4L MultiAir 4-cylinder but Chrysler teases us with news of a convertible coming in early 2011 followed by a high-performance Abarth model shortly after. As the brand moves forward (proving that things go as planned), Chrysler has hinted to an electric Fiat 500 in 2012 and a 4-door model in 2013.

According to multiple sources, in addition to the first metro Detroit Fiat dealership popping up at Golling’s Bloomfield Hills Chrysler brand dealership, the Galeana and Suburban automotive groups will also be offering the Fiat brand for sale later this year with Galeana making use of their currently defunct Saturn dealership. Chrysler plans for this initial wave of new Fiat dealerships to move approximately 50,000 vehicles in 2011 with that number increasing to almost 80,000 in 2013.
