Time Magazine’s most influential people of the year features the sisters Middleton: Pippa and Kate; while Prince William didn’t make Time’s list.
The headlines in London's newspapers last week - after Time magazine’s 100 most influential people of the year edition was released - was shocking for Royal watchers. The headlines stated: “Move over William: Pippa usurps the prince's throne as she appears on TIME's 100 list of influential people with sister Kate.” It was back at the end of April 2011, that Prince William and Kate Middleton were on top of the world and, as London’s Daily Mail recently describes: “They were the most talked-about and reported-on couple in the world, admired to the point that they were named in TIME magazine's 100 most influential people of the year. But this year, poor Prince William has been ousted and his throne usurped by none other than his sister-in-law Pippa Middleton, who out with the old: Last year Prince William and Kate appeared in the TIME 100 list together, this year Pippa has replaced the prince.” Thus, everything these days in England and wherever Pippa and her sister Kate go seems to make headlines as the 'two most influential sisters in the world."
Pippa now the “IT” girl around the world
Everybody whose anybody “is talking about Pippa,” said a London cab driver when asked about the famous sister of Kate Middleton.
In turn, London’s Daily Mail newspaper reported how “the turning point for Pippa came as she walked down the aisle behind her sister on April 29 last year in the slinkiest of bridesmaid dresses, with her most famous asset on display And while William has spent the last year serving in the Falklands on search-and-rescue shifts for RAF Valley and enjoying cozy nights in with his wife, Pippa has been attending every top party, sports and social event in the VIP calendar, most recently being photographed with a gun-toting lawyer while partying in France.”
At the same time, other British media can’t seem to get enough “Pippa.”
For instance, there’s a Daily Mail headline that reads: “Vous parlez Francais? Oui, un petit Pip-peu!” The story then explains how “sex” is the watch-word for Pippa watchers with the paper revealing “behind the scenes footage of Pippa Middleton filed at dwarves and chastity belt party,” with all eyes on “Pippa’s famous backside.”
In turn, many Brits are miffed at Time picking Pippa for its list of the 100 most influential over Prince William. Thus, the Daily Mail points to how Time describes the list as the people who “inspire us, entertain us, challenge us and change our world. Meet the breakouts, pioneers, moguls, leaders and icons that make up this year's TIME 100.”
Also, the reported noted how “in the preceding poll, which is voted for by readers, the magazine included Pippa Middleton on her own, whose occupation they described as 'icon', writing: 'A slinky bridesmaid's dress at the wedding of her sister , thrust Pippa backward into the public eye.' Kate they described as 'the Queen-in-waiting' and said: 'Now the Duchess of Cambridge continues to raise spirits and burnish the Windsor family name through her solo appearances as the patron of several charities.”
Pippa and Kate now famous on their own
Also, the Daily Mail asks: “Whether greeting cancer victims or cutting ribbons, she demonstrates a common touch without sacrificing the mystique of royalty. The future of British monarchy appears to be in secure hands. When they appeared on the list today, the magazine's Europe editor said of them: 'The Middletons have become avatars of aspiration. Other women aim to dress like them, to emulate their easy athleticism and their more problematic slenderness.”
In addition, Pippa seems to make news whenever she or a traveling companion do stuff. For instance, a male friend of Pippa's recent showed off a gun while driving with Pippa in Paris. In turn, Pippa just smiled; while she rarely does interviews or answers questions.
Also, both sisters never, ever eat in public, states the Daily Mail and other London newspapers.
Time's criteria for most influential people
The Time magazine criteria -- for it's 100 most influential people in the world -- pointed to “the sister's ability to climb the social ladder which brought them much criticism from the media.”
For instance, the Daily Mail explained “as Prince William whispered sweet nothings to his girlfriend, the press muttered nasty somethings about her supposed ambition to wed above her station. They dubbed her Waitie Katie and bracketed her with Pippa as ‘the wisteria sisters,’ determined to climb.”
The Daily Mail also sounded a bit “cheeky” when it noted how “other people deemed to be influential by Time magazine included singer Adele, this year's sporting sensation New York Jets player Tim Tebow and his basketball-playing counterpart Jeremy Lin. Warren Buffett also appeared on the list, with an ode to the 81-year-old investment advisor written by President Obama - who also appeared on the list.
