American Dance Institute to bring world-renowned dance companies to Montgomery County

Two of the world's most celebrated dance companies will be in residence at American Dance Institute (ADI) this February, as the arts center continues its mission of bringing world-renowned talent to Montgomery County, MD.

The choreography of American jazz dance pioneer Gus Giordano will captivate audiences at American Dance Institute on Saturday, February 24th and Sunday, February 25th. His celebrated company Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago will present vibrant performances for dance enthusiasts and a Master Class for dance students. In addition, in partnership with The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the most noted ballerinas of the 20th century, Suzanne Farrell and her company, The Suzanne Farrell Ballet, will begin a series of rehearsals at American Dance Institute, on Monday, February 12th, as a part of the company's Balanchine Preservation Initiative.

"Hosting such esteemed artists here continues our mission to bring to Montgomery County the best in dance today."

Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, known for their passion, powerful athleticism and humor, was founded in the early 1960's by Gus Giordano. The company works to nurture and preserve the unique art of American jazz dance, which they define as a reflection of the emotions, dreams and desires of American people. The performances will be held in American Dance Institute's intimate, 140-seat facility on Saturday, February 24th at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, February 25th at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students with a valid ID, seniors, children and those with a DC dance pass.

Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago will also teach a Jazz Master Class on Sunday, February 25th at 11:00 a.m. The class is priced at $20, and is available for intermediate to advanced dance students in high school and college. Ballet icon, Suzanne Farrell, was a muse for legendary choreographer George Balanchine. The creation of the Balanchine Preservation Initiative formally establishes a means to continue resurrecting some of the world's greatest ballets for current and future audiences with the aim of preserving Balanchine's artistic legacy. This Initiative enables the Farrell Ballet to collaborate with those who knew Balanchine and/or have worked with him with the aim of introducing "unseen" or "rarely seen" Balanchine creations to audiences both nationally and internationally.

The American Dance Institute, a 501c(3) non-profit organization, is one the Washington, DC area's premier performing arts organizations. Aiming to build artistic, athletic and confident individuals, the Institute serves as a national center of excellence for dance instruction for children, pre-professionals, professionals and adults. An extensive Pilates curriculum is also offered, as well as a Pilates teacher training program.

American Dance Institute is also home to an array of diverse professional dance companies and emerging individual artists in the Washington metropolitan region through is Arts Incubator program. The Incubator provides arts management assistance and studio space for free or at significantly reduced costs.
