Australian Chamber Orchestra Announces Radiant Tour from 15 - 28 March 2007 (Richard Tognetti, Artistic Director and Lead Violin, Olli Mustonen, Piano). Finnish performer Olli Mustonen is one of the most acclaimed and original pianists today. His brilliant technique and startling originality have attracted invitations from most of the world's leading orchestras and recital halls, and his 'spirit of discovery' makes him an ideal partner for the ACO.
"Olli Mustonen is a living dream of pianism, having broken through an expressive barrier that other players do not know exists."Â Sunday Times (UK).
Mustonen has a deeply held conviction that each performance must have the freshness of a first performance: no two concerts are ever the same. This attitude makes the combination of Mustonen, Mozart and the ACO an unmissable experience.
The first of a number of performer/composers in the ACO's 2007 season, Olli Mustonen also plays his own Bach-inspired composition, Toccata, as well as Mozart's Piano Concerto K.413.
Mustonen's celebrated compatriot, Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, died in 1957 and is commemorated here by his radiant, evocative Rakastava 'The Lover'. The Sibelius scholar Robert Layton has gone so far as to write: 'there is no doubt that it is one of Sibelius' most perfect compositions.'
