Akroyd says Murray out of any Ghostbusters sequel

For years fans of the Ghostbusters have been tantalized by reports from Dan Akroyd and Rick Moranis were trying to get a third movie made, but Akroyd now says you can count Bill Murray out.

The story came during a live webcast with Empire magazine just this week. Akroyd took the moment to respond to fans who were anxious for information about the proposed sequel. There have been rumors for years now that Akroyd and others involved in the first two massively successful sequel were interested in bringing the crew back for a third installment. There were also rumors that Bill Murray, a big part of the reason that the first two movies were hits, was less than thrilled at the idea.

According to media sources, however, Akroyd denies at least one of the rumors. One of them said that Murray had received and early script, run it through a shredder, and sent it back with a note stating, “no one wants to see fat old guys running around chasing ghosts.” According to Akroyd, that never happened and would be completely against Murray’s nature.

However, although Murray may not have run the script through the shredder, he has apparently made it clear that he is not interested in doing a Ghostbusters 3. Akroyd told his webcast audience that he respects that decision, but that he is keeping his hopes alive that he can still make the movie move forward. He even hinted that he might be willing to move forward with the film putting different actors in the roles that Akroyd, Moranis and Murray made famous.

For some fans who were attending the webcast, this is a bad idea. Some suggested that it would be much better to let the two movies stand on their own without any more tinkering or doing anything else this long after the last movie was made. At the same time, there were some other fans who appreciated the humor in the situation and even suggested a complete reboot might be in order. Other franchises have gone the reboot way and had tremendous success. Perhaps putting younger actors in the roles and restarting the entire franchise is a way to go, some have suggested.

Akroyd did not say that this was the way he was going. Nor did he offer any suggestions as to what actors he envisions filling the roles that he helped make famous. At this point there is also no suggestion that the movie has been green-lit and that there is even a movie studio backing the possibility of a Ghostbusters 3. As such, fans of the movies and the cartoon show, will likely just have to keep waiting and prepare for the fact that if Ghostbusters returns to the screen at all, it will likely look very different than it did when they saw the first movie in theaters all those years ago.

#1 get the facts straight

Rick Moranis has been retired from movies since 1996. It has always been dan akroyd, and Ivan reitman who have pushed for the third film. Rick Moranis also wants nothing to do with this movie. Whoever wrote this article should fact check and stop writing based off rumors. IDIOT!!!

#2 I think you will find it's

I think you will find it's "Aykroyd" and its also him and Harold Ramis that have been championing it NOT Moranis!!! Moron!!!
