Denver Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno adds to his misfortune in Denver, following a poor showing in 2011 and a torn ACL, when he is stopped for drunk driving.
Denver Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno is facing charges of drunk driving and careless driving, after being pulled over in an interstate construction zone.
Lt. Matthew Murray indicated to The Los Angeles Times that Moreno was pulled over for allegedly driving 70 mph in a 45 mph interstate construction zone. He was given a field sobriety test and a breath test before being taken to a detox facility, the Denver Post reported. In addition to DUI and careless driving, Moreno is being charged with failure to provide proof of insurance, as well, Denver district attorney spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough said, The L. A. Times reported.
Moreno has not come forward individually on the incident, but the Denver Broncos have issued a written statement regarding the one-time first-round draft pick:
“We take the incident involving Knowshon Moreno very seriously and are thoroughly reviewing this matter. Our organization will continue to gather information and closely monitor this issue while the legal process runs its course.”
Moreno was issued a police summons, and is due to be back in court on March 2.
Of growing interest to many is the fact that the personalized plate on Moreno’s Bentley reads, “SAUCED,” which is slang for being drunk.
Moreno was drafted as the 12th pick overall in 2009, and had his best season for the Broncos that year, when he rushed for 947 yards and seven touchdowns. However, the former Georgia Bulldog did not see much playing time this season, and was not effective when he did. After tearing an anterior cruciate ligament in November, Moreno’s season came to a halt with only 179 yards and no touchdowns. Running back Willis McGahee stepped in earlier in the season, ending with 1,199 yards and four touchdowns, and controversial Denver quarterback also provided steam for the running game, with 660 yards and six touchdowns.
