A margarita is a cocktail, traditionally made with tequila, orange liqueur, and either lemon or lime juice. There are, however, many different versions of the margarita. Some are made with fruit juice or blended fruit. A very popular version is the frozen margarita, which is made by blending the margarita cocktail with ice.
The margarita is a popular choice for those making their own drinks at home, as it is simple to make. But, many recipes call for margarita-type ingredients, making them perfect for celebrating National Margarita Day. Additionally, non-alcoholic variations are abundant, so everyone can join in on the celebration.
National Margarita Day is Feb. 22, 2011 and many people are celebrating with their favorite frozen drink. However, some people like to shake things up with a new recipe, putting a twist on the traditional favorite.

Margarita Smoothie (Family Friendly)
1/2 cup boiling water
1 pkg. (4-serving size) JELL-O Margarita Flavor Gelatin
1/2 cup cold water
1-1/2 cups thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping
Stir boiling water into dry gelatin mix in medium bowl at least 2 min. until completely dissolved.
Add enough ice to cold water to measure 1-1/2 cups; pour into blender. Add gelatin and whipped topping; cover. Blend on medium speed until smooth.
Pour evenly into four glasses. Serve immediately.
Layered Margarita Bites (Family Friendly or Adult Only, your call)
2 cups boiling water
2 pkg. (3 oz. each) JELL-O Margarita Flavor Gelatin
1/2 cup tequila or cold water
Zest and juice from 1 lime
2 cups thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping
Add boiling water to gelatin mixes in large bowl; stir with whisk 2 min. until completely dissolved. Stir in tequila and 2 Tbsp. lime juice. Add COOL WHIP and 1 tsp. lime zest; stir until COOL WHIP is completely melted and mixture is well blended.
Pour into 8-inch square pan.
Refrigerate 3 hours or until firm. Cut into 36 pieces to serve.
Margarita Shrimp and Vegetable Kabobs
1 env. GOOD SEASONS Italian Dressing Mix
1/2 cup oil
1/4 cup tequila
1/4 cup lime juice
1 lb. cleaned large shrimp
2 cups assorted cut-up vegetables (bell peppers, onions, zucchini and mushrooms)
4 wooden skewers
Mix dressing mix, oil, tequila and lime juice until well blended. Pour over shrimp and vegetables in shallow dish; cover. Refrigerate 30 min. to 2 hours to marinate. Remove shrimp and vegetables from marinade; discard marinade.
Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Arrange shrimp and vegetables on skewers.
Grill kabobs 5 to 8 min. or until shrimp turn pink and vegetables are crisp-tender, turning after 4 min.
Triple Citrus Margarita
3-1/2 cups (28 oz.) cold water
1 pkt. (.13 oz.) CRYSTAL LIGHT SUNRISE On The Go Classic Orange Flavor Drink Mix
1 pkt. (.14 oz.) CRYSTAL LIGHT On The Go Lemonade Flavor Drink Mix
1/2 cup (4 oz.) tequila
2 Tbsp. (1 oz.) lime juice
Add water to drink mixes in plastic or glass pitcher; stir until mixes are dissolved.
Stir in tequila and lime juice.
Serve over ice cubes in tall glasses.
