Tim Tebow backs out of commitment to speak at controversial prosperity preacher Rod Parsley's upcoming revival in Ohio; brother says Tebow's speakers' bureau is to blame.

Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow has backed out of a commitment to speak at a revival organized by controversial prosperity preacher Rod Parsley.

Tebow, who famously emphasizes his commitment to Christianity both on and off the field, was scheduled to speak at a three-day event in Columbus, OH, March 16-18. The revival will be led by televangelist Rod Parsley. However, according to Robbie Tebow, his brother is definitely not going to be speaking at the event.

“I know for a fact that Tim is not going to be a part of it,” Robbie Tebow said, the Associate Press reported. “That’s being resolved.”

According to Robbie, the speakers’ bureau had not properly researched the event before promising Tim Tebow as a guest and speaker.

Parsley is one of the growing number of “prosperity preachers” in the spotlight today, who preaches emphatically and unabashedly that faithfulness to God translates to prosperity. In his upcoming revival, “Contending for the Faith” weekend, Parsley will be joined by fellow prosperity preachers and televangelists Kenneth Copeland, Isaac Pitre, and Clint Brown. The event is being hosted by Valor Christian College.

Mark Youngkin, a spokesman for Parsley, said that Tebow does have a contract with event organizers, the Associated Press reported, and that they are asking the quarterback to reconsider his refusal to speak at the weekend event.

Tim Tebow, of course, is the inspiration for the phenomena known as “Tebowing,” defined at Tebowing.com as, “(vb) to get down on a knee and start praying, even if everyone else around you is doing something completely different.” The penchant Tebow has to frequently drop to one knee and pray as a ballgame goes on around him led to the quirky phenomena, and thousands of people have taken up the habit, even if only in jest. Tebowing.com features a wide assortment of people and their favorite Tebowing poses, including those captured while cheerleading, riding rollercoasters, zip-lining, even “San Diego TeZoobowing.”

But, at this point, Youngkin says that it is all up to Tebow, whether or not his contract will be honored at the “Contending for the Faith” weekend.

“The ball’s in their court at this point,” Youngkin said.
