Home buyers who want to take celebrity style to the next level might want to consider one of the homes of the stars currently on the market. Celebrities selling their homes include Michael Jordan, Oprah Winfrey, Anderson Cooper and Paula Abdul.
Michael Jordan Selling His Chicago Estate
Located in Highland Park, basketball star Michael Jordan is selling his grand Chicago estate. According to the company marketing the house, Luxury Portfolio International, it is listed for a cool $29 million. Jordan resided in the home for over 15 years. Now the 56,000 square foot property is available to interested buyers with a big budget.
The former NBA player is now the majority owner of the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats. His house has nine bedrooms, over fifteen bathrooms and five fireplaces. The Wall Street Journal reports it was constructed between 1993 and 1995 with extensive renovations in 2009. The gates of the property are engraved with the number 23, which was Jordan's jersey number with the Chicago Bulls.
Besides the main house, the over 7-acre property has a three-bedroom guesthouse. There are also three separate climate-controlled multi-car garages. The indoor basketball complete with a separate entry and parking area was built in 2001. It has a full-size regulation basketball court and a sound system. If that isn't enough, the estate also has an outdoor tennis court, putting green, entertaining and pool area and a deep water pond.
In 2007, Jordan agreed to a $168 million divorce settlement with estranged wife Juanita. The property was sold to a trust in 2007. Now Jordan is engaged to girlfriend Yvette Prieto. Jordan was not available for comment. The listing agent for this prestigious property is Katherine Chez Malkin of Baird & Warner Real Estate.
Oprah Winfrey Penthouse for Sale
Talk show diva Oprah Winfrey has an Manhattan penthouse for sale in the new Midtown tower Place 57. According to MSNBC, in 2008 it was reported Winfrey's best friend Gayle King bought the tony apartment. Regardless of who might have lived here, the house was purchased by Winfrey for $7.1 million.
Now the apparently vacant penthouse is for sale for $7.9 million. Place 57 condos was completed in 2006 and has condos from $1.47 million to over $7 million. Oprah Winfrey's penthouse on the 36th floor has 2,530 square feet of living space plus a 768 square-foot terrace.
The modern penthouse features a high-end kitchen, dining area, triangular living room and two bedrooms. One bedroom has an attached bathroom with three walk-in closets in the master suite and a jetted tub. The listing agent on Oprah Winfrey's penthouse is Mark Schoenfield of the Corcoran Group.
Anderson Cooper Sells His Penthouse
Anderson Cooper is the journalist, author and television personality anchoring the CNN news show, “Anderson Cooper 360º” and host of his own syndicated daytime talk show, “Anderson.”
Cooper is selling his penthouse in NYC located in the Garment District. According to MSNBC, the penthouse is listed for $3.75 million. Cooper purchased the home for $2.48 million in 2005. His renovations raised the price over one million dollars.
Formerly a manufacturing space, Cooper transformed it into a bachelor pad with Chambord oak floors and Lustron lighting along with surround sound and etched glass details. The home has about 3,100 square feet of living space with two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The first floor has the master suite and attached master bath with a claw-foot soaking tub and shower. The floating staircase leads to a living room with wood-burning fireplaces, dining room and gourmet kitchen.
The penthouse has view of downtown Manhattan and a 1,700 square foot landscaped deck with gas grill. The listing agent for Anderson Cooper's penthouse is Raphael De Niro, agent with Prudential Douglas Elliman Real estate and son of actor Robert De Niro.
Paula Abdul Selling House in Sherman Oaks
Singer, dancer and former “The X-Factor” judge Paula Abdul is selling her house in Sherman Oaks. According to the LA Times, the house is on the market for $1.899 million. Abdul's contemporary Mediterranean home was built in 2000 and has 4,679 square feet of living space.
The house boasts a grand entry with double staircase, five bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms and French doors that open to the patio and pool areas. The master suite has a fireplace and balcony with city and canyon vistas. The listing agent on the house is Michael Collins of Coldwell Banker's Beverly Hills North office.
For status seekers who cannot afford to buy a celebrity home, there are Academy Award-worthy homes temporarily for rent. These vacation homes were owned by Orson Welles and appeared in Academy Award winning movies such as “The Artist” and “The Sounds of Music.”
