This impressive group of artists will join Farm Aid board members Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews on August 13. The all-day festival will be held at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kansas.
PR Newswire reports Carolyn Mugar, executive director of Farm Aid, stated, “Farm Aid is a movement inspired not only by the passion of Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young and Dave Matthews, but also by the more than 400 artists who have donated their performances at our shows over the years. This year, we are thrilled to welcome back several familiar faces to the Farm Aid stage as well as some first-timers for what is sure to be a remarkable day of music, food and inspiration.”
Farm Aid celebrates family farmers, good food and music. Concertgoers have an opportunity to meet family farmers and learn how they are protecting natural resources. Since 1985, Farm Aid has supported organizations working on a local, national and regional level to strengthen family farms. The concert began as a response to Bob Dylan's on-stage calls during Live Aid to assist US agricultural efforts.
Farm Aid helps farmers in need due to weather-related disasters, escalating costs and other related problems. Farm Aid also informs customers of the value of good food from family farms, encouraging conscientious consumption. Sponsors of the festival include Silk Soymilk, Horizon Organic, United Natural Foods (UNFI), Organic Valley, Hippie Chow, Whole Foods Market and Goodness Greeness.
On the Farm Aid website, Neil Young states, “Just as rock and roll is loud and proud, so is Farm Aid. Farm Aid's greatest accomplishment, I believe, is in the spirit. It's the fact that we represent the spirit of the good fight, to keep something good happening. It just keeps getting stronger and stronger....”
The event will include HOMEGROWN concessions with a HOMEGROWN Village showcasing hands-on farming activities. The focus is on protecting land and water supplies. Tickets to Farm Aid 2011 are now available.
Since its beginning in 1985, Farm Aid raised over $39 million to help farmers and encourage good eating. Artists participating in Farm Aid over the years include the Beach Boys, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Roy Orbison, Loretta Lynn, Alabama, Bon Jovi, Jackson Browne, Lou Reed, Arlo Guthrie, Neville Brothers, Hootie and the Blowfish, Doobie Brothers, Keith Urban, Billy Bob Thornton, Kenny Chesney, Norah Jones and more.
