Over 200 people have taken a guided tour through Blackpool's glorious Grand in the dead of night, learning of the ghostly goings on in the town's 113 year old Victorian theatre, visiting areas that few have the opportunity to see during daylight hours, never mind the wee small hours around the witching hour.
Due to an amazing response, further tours have been arranged. Marketing Manager Stephen Mercer said, "Originally a one-off Hallowe'en Ghost Tour was arranged, however the response from the public was astonishing. That tour sold out in a matter of minutes once published in the local press. Many people were disappointed they could not get tickets for that event, so additional tours were organised. In total we have had eight Grand Ghost Tours to date and places were mostly filled by those who wanted to attend the original!"Â
Grand Ghost Tours include a walk through the various levels of the darkened auditorium where ghosts are said to roam, visits backstage where props have been known to move of their own accord, a walk over the bridge to the fly floor thirty-foot above the stage, and other behind-the-scenes areas, whilst being told ghostly tales passed on from those who have worked at the theatre or starred on its stage.
The theatre's box office has been inundated with telephone calls and emails from ghost hunters and paranormal enthusiasts throughout the North West asking for more tours. The waiting is over. Further Grand Ghost Tours have been arranged for Tuesday 20 February from 11pm to 1am, Wednesday 28 February 10pm to 12-midnight and Monday 19 March from 10pm to 12 midnight.
Stephen continued, "Many of those who have been on the tours have experienced sightings, heard strange noises or felt things. On a few occasions, there have even been a few screams and shrieks from our participants. It's fantastic. People have come from all areas of the North West to experience the ghost tours and many have returned again and again! It's a wonderful experience.
"Although the tour is held in a theatre, there are no theatrics involved. What people hear, feel or see is not something that has been set up by anyone who works at the Grand. I think this is something that those who attend appreciate. Many who have attended the tours have arrived at the theatre nervous or frightened; some have left that way too!"Â
