La clemenza di Tito At Royal Danish Theatre

McVicar's acclaimed Mozart production returns to the Old Stage - One of the world's most accomplished opera directors - Scottish David McVicar - brought new life to the last of Mozart's serious operas when his production premiered in 2004. The much acclaimed performance now returns to the Old Stage. This year's recipient of the Léonie Sonning Prize, Lars Ulrik Mortensen, will again conduct Concerto Copenhagen from his cembalo in some of Mozart's most magnificent music.

"La clemenza di Tito isn't traditionally considered one of Mozart's greatest operas but this is in my view a great injustice. The music is in many ways anticipates the kind of simple and almost romantic palette Mozart would probably have ventured into. I hope our musical performance will succeed in matching David McVicar's wonderfully beautiful and seemingly straight-forward yet ultimately psychologically charged direction." Lars Ulrik Mortensen.

The title role as the mild-natured Emperor Tito (Titus) is once again performed by the Royal Danish Opera's tenor Michael Kristensen. Vitellia will once again be performed by Ylva Kihlberg. Debutants are Teresia Bokor from the Royal Danish Opera Academy as Servilia and Andrea Pellegrini, who at the Royal Danish Theatre has formerly appeared as Rosina in Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia, will perform Annio. Elisabeth Halling appears as Sesto and Jens Bruno Hansen as Publio.

The restrained and elegant set and costume design is by Yannis Thavoris, and Paule Constable has created the atmospheric lighting design.

Revival is on 24 February 2007, 3 pm, performances are on 24, 27 February and 01, 05, 07, 09 March 2007. -- www.kglteater.dk
