Visual Voices Art Exhibit Returns

In celebration of Black History Month, the third annual Visual Voices art exhibit will return to the Benjamin and Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center in February. This year's exhibit is titled "Dayton Skyscrapers: An African-American Visual Artists' Tribute to African American Heroes of Dayton, Ohio" and will feature works by 13 local African-American artists.

A visual tribute to the many African-Americans who have made significant contributions to the Dayton community, the exhibit showcases and celebrates their achievements.

Victoria Theatre Association is once again collaborating with Willis "Bing" Davis of EbonNia Gallery on the exhibit. Davis supports Visual Voices with his continued vision of assembling exhibitions that enhance public awareness and appreciation for the contributions Dayton's African-American citizens have made to the region.

The works of art on display this year were inspired by the area's historical figures as well as those who are continuing to spread their influence. Among those who provided inspiration are former Tuskegee Airman Mac Ross, former Dayton City Commissioner Lloyd Lewis Jr., Dayton Mayor Rhine McLin and The Paul Laurence Dunbar Laureate Poet for the City of Dayton, Herbert W. Martin.

On display through February 28, Dayton Skyscrapers is free and open to the public, with viewing hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, with some exceptions during performances at the Schuster Center.

The Dayton Power and Light Company Foundation is sponsoring the exhibit for the second year in a row. -- www.victoriatheatre.com
